All SCH forum: (For Thornsp.., and others who claim to be old, may be
little bit lengthy for you)
It is surprising to see that some people continue to post Srimouane
Phonesavanh's false accusations against Dr. Yang Dao when the rest of
the world already know that Srimouane Phonesanh is just a liar who
used a fake name and a troublemaker who has unsucessfully tried to
tarnish Dr. Yang Dao's family reputation and to destroy our Hmong
unity, dignity and honor. Indeed, many of us have read Srimouane
Phonesavanh's allegations, posted on January 2, 2003 on the Internet.
And posted again by TSWV YIM on SCH on July 5, 2007 (also included
below). We were also aware of other false statements which said that
General Vang Pao had sent Dr. Yang Dao to study in France in 1962 with
General Vang Pao's personal money. Finally, others shamefully declared
that Dr. Yang Dao did not receive his Ph.D. Degree in France in 1972.
For those who wrongfully accused Dr. Yang Dao as a Vietnamese orphan
who was adopted by his (biologic) father, Yang Mino, I would like to
tell them that Dr. Yang Dao has 5 brothers and 6 sisters, all still
living in the United States in 2007. A simple DNA test will prove that
that Dr. Yang Dao is a true Hmong, born from Hmong parents. We, the
Hmong people around the world, we are very proud to have Dr. Yang Dao
as a member of our Hmong family and as our Hmong first Ph.D. For more
information about Dr. Yang Dao's ethnic identity and his role in the
contemporary history of Laos, I invite all of you to read Srimouna
Phonesavanh's Accusations against Dr. Yang Dao and his response to
these allegations. I have also attached Dr. Yang Dao's speech on "The
Hmong Odyssey from Laos to America" which he has delivered to an
audience of more than 900 participants, Hmong and non-Hmong, at the
Hmong National Development (HND) National Conference in Fresno, CA, in
April 2005. After reading these documents, I hope that any Hmong who
has Hmong blood in his/her body veins will cease to dishonore our
Hmong people and will pay more respect to whoever has served or
continue to serve our Hmong people with love and dedication.

Dear Lao/Hmong friends:
As reading your emails arguing each other back and forth about Yang
Dao's background, the news reported on Yang Dao's trip to Laos, and
his letter to Mr. Robert Armstrong explaining all the good things
about Lao communist government now, I know how you all feel and I have
the same feeling. The reason of this letter is to clarify Yang Dao's
spoiled apple so you all can picture whom he really is. If General
Vang Pao had not treated my father that well, I would stay away, clean
myself out, and watch you guys bark among yourselves. It has nothing
to do with me; however, because of General Vang Pao's generosity and
hospitality, it is time to pay back the dept of gratitude in support
of my father during our staying in Long Chieng.
My dear fellow Hmong and Lao friends, I realized that most of you
don't have any ideas who Yang Dao really is and what nationality he
comes from. Let me share with you what is Yang Dao's true background
and what kind of dirty activities he has planned for long time to play
so you all can have a better and clearer picture.
Yang Dao was a Vietnamese orphan boy. He was born in Dien Bien Phou
area in North Vietnam. His real name - I mean his name at birth - was
Tran Van Dao;. His biological parents were 100% Vietnamese. Both of
his parents were killed during the French War against North Vietnamese
in Dien Bien Phou while transporting ammunitions and food to the North
Vietnamese troops. Mr. Yang Minou was only Yang Dao's foster parent,
not a biological father as many of you think. There was no one took
care of Yang Dao after his parents got killed. He was a homeless boy
and spent his life on the street. Everyday Yang Dao was begging for
saving his life by asking people for food from houses to houses. Even
though we - the Thaidam - saw him crying for food, we didn't care to
provide him anything because we hated those Vietnamese who conquered
our kingdom, the twelve groups Thai or Sip Song Panna along the Black
River, and treated us like animals.
One day while Yang Dao was begging for food, Mr. Yang Minou - a best
friend of my father - showed up and took him home to feed him. After
feeding Yang Dao, Mr. Yang Minou asked who his parents were and where
did they live. He told Mr. Yang Minou that his name was Tran Van Dao,
his parents were killed while transporting ammunitions to the troops,
and there was no one looks after him. Mr. Yang Minou who had a big and
hospitality heart decided to adopt Tran Van Dao and gave him a Hmong
name, ;Yang Cha;. Mr. Yang Minou put Yang Cha now so-called Yang Dao
in the same school I attended with his first son - Yang Toua. While
attending school there, all students including me called him Tran Van
Dao instead of Yang Cha because everyone knew exactly who he was.
After the French lost the war in Dien Bien Phou, we - the Thaidam and
Mr. Yang Minous family along with many Hmong families fled North
Vietnam to Laos. We settled in Long Chieng for a while and later
relocated to Vientiane, the capital city of Laos leaving Mr. Yang
Minous family in Long Chieng with General Vang Pao. While staying in
Long Chieng, General Vang Pao treated my father so well. If I were a
Hmong, I would have the same support from General Vang Pao as he
contributed to Yang Dao. I feel so sorry that I am not a Hmong, but I
am very proud of what General Vang Pao had done to support my fathers
family. Correct me if I am wrong. If I remembered correctly, General
Vang Pao had treated Yang Dao like a king. He gave Yang Dao millions
Kips of his own money from his pocket to pay Yang Daos tuition while
pursuing his Ph. D. Degree in France. Yang Dao who had no sense of
humor or no heart feeling totally forgot that he earned his Ph. D.
Degree because of your Hmong great leader, General Vang Pao. He turned
his back on you and used his Vietnamese philosophy idea to clean you
out one-by-one. Not only that, Yang Dao also forgot me who have been
his best friend and best classmate since the first day of his
schooling in North Vietnam. I met him several times in Vientiane after
he returned from France in 1973, but he totally ignored me.
Because Yang Dao had planned to destroy the Hmong, before pursuing his
higher education, he pretended that if he did not change his name, the
Lao School Administration wouldn't accept and/or grant him. Mr. Yang
Minou who didn't realize Yang Dao's dirty trick agreed to let Yang Dao
change his name from Cha to Dao, which was Yang Dao's last name in
Vietnamese before he was adopted. My dear Hmong educators, can you
picture why Yang Dao did not change the whole name Yang Cha? Allow me
to refresh your mind. This clever animal uses one stone to kill two
mocking birds. He keeps the name Yang to trick you all that he is a
Hmong, and adds Dao back in just to let his fellow Vietnamese friends
know that he is still 100% Vietnamese.
Because now Laos is under the control of his North Vietnamese bloody
relatives and Yang Dao will have a good chance to suck all the
Laotian's blood, he follows every Lao/Hmong footstep to spy on what
politic roles Lao/Hmong play in the United States and elsewhere so he
can report back to his bloody Communist Vietnamese inside Laos to set
up traps to wipe out all Hmong and Lao. That is why Yang Dao took his
trip to Laos last November.
My friends, you can argue all you want, but the truth is Yang Dao is
not a real Hmong blood. He is a 100% Vietnamese bloody man. Please be
advised that Yang Dao has been using you all to plow his rice paddle
for many decades. Now comes to the harvest time, he is going to eat
you with his new harvest rice. I remember a very good Hmong proverb
Yang Toua taught me while going to school together in North Vietnam:
"tu qaib ntsuag tau ncej puab while tu tub ntsuag tau yeeb ncuab."
Therefore, please be advised that before adopting any pet we should
consider our safety of else we will be bitten when s/he is fully
grown. Hopefully, this will give you good information "Who Yang Dao
really is, and what his root ancestor was."

6 January 2003
Dear Lao and Hmong brothers and sisters all over the world,
As the year of 2003 begins, I would like to wish each and every one of
you and your families a very HAPPY NEW YEAR filled with good health,
success and longevity. I hope that each of us has drawn a lesson from
the past twelve months, with their good and bad fortunes, and that we
are all ready to face the challenges of the new year in making this
changing world a better place for all of humanity to live.
Over the past few weeks, you have no doubt read a great many comments
about my trip back to Laos at the end of November. The Vientiane Times
published a short article about my visit to the country. Radio France
Internationale aired, in the Lao language, my discussion with Mr.
David Thanadabouth. Finally, Hmong United Radio in Fresno, California,
broadcast a 90-minute interview with me about my activities toward
furthering Laotian national reconciliation as well as my continued
efforts to improve the welfare of the refugee Hmong community. As most
of you are aware, over the past 27 years I have published 7 books and
numerous articles, in both French and in English, regarding the Hmong
in Laos, their history, culture and traditions. In particular, I would
recommend that those of you who have not done so take a look at Dr.
Souk Aloun's new book, History of Laos from 1930 to 2000, in which he
mentions my name and describes my ultimate political action to save
the lives of thousands of Hmong in the Long Cheng area in May 1975.
With all these documents, and many more, in place, there is no need to
spend further time discussing my humanitarian actions on behalf of our
Laotian people, including Hmong and other ethnic groups of Laos.
Regretfully, however, certain persons have, for a variety of reasons,
chosen to attempt to impugn my family origins, my ethnic identify and
my educational background and have made these topics the objects of
controversial debates over the past two months. I have chosen, once
again, to clarify these aspects of my life to those who may have been
influenced by these ad hominem slanders and to challenge those I
believe to be responsible for them. In summary, I am proud to have
been born as a Hmong into a true Hmong family. My father was from the
Hmong Yang clan and my mother from the Hmong Heu clan, hence my family
name of Yang. Both of my parents were descendants of Hmong ancestors
as far back as anyone can remember. I have 5 brothers and 6 sisters,
all of whom now live in the United States. A simple DNA test would
prove our biological relationship.
Out of jealousy, racism and general ill will, a man who uses the false
name of Srimouane Phonesavanh, has tried to make those who have never
met me before believe that I am "an orphan from true Vietnamese
parents", spending my childhood begging for food on the streets, and
that, out of pity and compassion, my biological father Yang Mino, a
well-known and respected Hmong, adopted me into his family. This man,
pseudonymed Srimouane Phonesavanh, who unscrupulously identifies
himself as a "Thaidam" and says that his "Thaidam" father was a best
friend of my father, Yang Mino, is nothing but a troublemaker and a
liar. To prove that this man is neither a Thaidam nor a Lao, I
challenge him to identify himself with his true name, address and
telephone number, as well as the name, address and telephone number of
his "Thaidam" father. Once "Mr. Srimouane Phonesavanh" becomes aware
of this message, he may call all over the world to collect "evidence"
to support his insults toward me and my family. Therefore, I would
give him one week, until January 13, 2003 to respond to my challenge.
I promise to all of you that if he dares to publicly communicate here,
in this forum, his true name, address and telephone number as well as
the true name, address and telephone number of his "Thaidam" father, I
will form an ad hoc investigation committee with your full
participation. I will ask the living leader of the Thaidam community
in the United States to chair this committee to investigate and to
find the truth, because by pretending that he and his father belong to
the Thaidam community, the so-called Srimouane Phonesavanh (which is
not even a Thaidam name) is harming this entire community as well. For
his information, this living leader of the Thaidam community came to
my daughter's wedding, along with numerous local authorities, in
August 2001 in North Saint Paul, Minnesota. If "Srimouane Phonesavanh"
does not respond to my current challenge with the deadline, I ask all
of you to forgive him, because he is just a man with some mental
problems, ignoring his own name and ethnic background...
Moreover, a few months ago, another man wrote in this forum that my
education in France had been supported by General Vang Pao and that I
had never received my Ph.D. or French Doctorate. The truth is that,
after I had successfully passed the French Baccalaureat in Paris in
1964, I was granted a scholarship from the French government for my
undergraduate studies at the University de Paris I, France, and an
additional scholarship from the United Nations' Educational,
Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to accomplish my
doctoral degree in social science in 1972. Whoever desires to read my
doctoral thesis, " Les Difficultes de Developpement Economique et
Social de la Population Hmong du Laos ", may find 10 copies of it in
the library of the Sorbonne, University of Paris, and another 10
copies in the library of the University of New York, U.S.A., as a
French contribution under a bilateral agreement between the two
universities. The Royal Lao Government, in which I had the privilege
to serve from 1972 to 1975, was obviously not stupid enough to appoint
whomever claimed that he/she possessed a Ph.D. to an administrative
position without verifying his/her doctoral degree credentials. This
man who accuses me of betraying my Hmong community is either unaware
of or chooses to ignore that fact that I saved thousands of Hmong
lives by avoiding a bloodshed with the communist troops in Long Cheng
and the fate of General Vang Pao in May 1975 by dissuading him from
attacking Vientiane, the capital of Laos. He has also ignored that in
1983, I was the Assistant Secretary General (1982-1984) of the Neo Hom
Organization and, therefore, his "father or cousin", Nao Pao Vang,
who has lived in St. Etienne, France since 1977, worked under my
leadership within that organization. I left France to come to the
United States only to hold a teaching position at the University of
Minnesota, U.S.A.
Faithful to myself and following my own conscience, I have, since then
devoted all my efforts toward Laotian national reconciliation, which
remains my goal and that of the majority of the Laotian people, in
their love of peace, social justice, and economic progress. My recent
trip to Laos (November 2002) thus served this purpose in contributing
to the reduction of misunderstanding and mistrust between Laotian
people living inside and outside the country. It was and is my hope
that my trip will play a small yet meaningful part toward improving
the relationship between Laos and the United States in this difficult
start of our new century, threatened as it is by terrorism and nuclear
war. May the new year 2003 shed a light of wisdom on all the leaders
of our civilized and modern world, so that they will definitively
abandon the race for war and diligently and unceasingly work for
peaceful solutions to the current political crisis, which has once
again brought all of humanity to the brink of destruction. May each of
us also do our parts, large or small, in furthering mutual
understanding, respect and peace in this new year.
HAPPY NEW YEAR OF
2003!
Yang Dao,
Ph.D.
