yaweh,
i am not sure i agree with 2 dialects being taught in 1 course. that
may be confusing for non-native speakers. either teach hmoob in the
der dialect or leng dialect. on the other hand, my own statement can
be refuted by the fact that there are only a few rules in RPA to
translate the der RPA literature to leng RPA literature.
hmong leng dialect may be reserved for 'advanced' studies in hmong
language since hmong leng language permeate all of hmong culture (i.e.
kev cia dab qhaus); you cannot understand wedding ceremonies, burial
rituals, or hmong music (i.e. qeej) without ever being exposed to or
educated in the hmong leng dialect. as i stated in the past, even
'chinese' is taught only in 1 dialect per semester. this requirement
is practical and not political, although the chauvinistic pigs may
politicize the requirement.
had 'equality' been the touchstone of the hmoob leng political issue,
i have hope that hmong every where will come to support this cause
once educated on the issue. however, i think the 'equality' claim has
changed covertly to 'separatism', and therein lies my sadness and
contempt.
if translation was the problem, again, technology can mitigate the
translation due to the reasons i mentioned before.
it is uncharacteristic of your sch personality to have left that
meeting without standing up for yourself. let it be known, that should
you ever come upon pigs claiming der superiority over leng, you have
friends who speak der and are willing to stand next to you to promote
equal representation and that leng may be 'superior' to der if we are
to play the dominance game.
perhaps i am too harsh and critical of the people who came ahead of us
on this issue, but i think both sides are wrong when arguing from the
premise of dominance.
the best, but most difficult way, to mitigate the leng/der issue is
not 'equality' but a 'revolutionary' approach. we have many other
different ways to write hmong that would potentially get rid of this
RPA conundrum of leng/der. if these other writing systems prove biased
or show the same complications, perhaps hmong should create their own
set of characters. this is just an idea.

"equality for everyone..." which is a good thing.
so..what did i say when he said that? i left the meeting...and took
the other green guy with me. i let them have what they wanted...and
intend to get a piece of the pie myself...for moob leeg.
it was after that time that a few of us green people talked about many
many many things...and decided to do manymany things..which are still
very very hard to reach...due to politics.
what professor thao proposed was not meant to divide the hmong....but
to get moob leeg a piece of the pie just like cov moob dlawb (and to
let peoiple know that moog leeg deserve documents to be translated
into hmoob leeg also...not just white). i'm sur eyou heard about
it...but here is my clarification to you...for you own info....
a large amount of money was given for hmong as a whole....to translate
documents, school works, etc. into the hmong language...and if there
are clases about hmong...then make sure or at least have that hmong
teacher understand/speak both dialects. cov "coj noj coj ua"
txwv...tsi pub moob leeg los txuam li...qhia moob dawb, hais hmoob
dawb, sau moob dawb xwb...tseem tias "moob dawb is the superior
dialect...and it should be in white" no thiab...
other people tsi paub tias hmoob muaj 2 dialects..written and spoken
differently for many words...and means different things depend on
different proununciation. so these grants never gave any instruction
on how to use them. hmoob leeg tias "sis faib sib npaug...coj llos us
2 yam.." moob dawb tias "ua ib yam xwb...vim hmoob lees dialect is
not a professional dialect..."
so you see...maybe its jealousy, maybe is the desire of equal
sharing...but my quest is...mong lees needs to be known too...
yaweh
