Like a turtle slowly but surely the tide seems to be turning. Let's
hope, let's keep working so that some constructive result are
cultivated out of this. The human pursue of justice and freedom is the
expression of the Universe seeking balance. For the last 50 years, Laos
have been out of balance, each of you is given an opportunity to
"choose" which side of the scale you want to live and express. There is
no right or wrong, only choices. Unbelanceness will eventually cause
the scale to reset itself, humanity will forget, and everything will
start all over again.

The European Parliament condemns the violations of freedoms and calls
for multi-party elections under international supervision
The European Parliament, during a mini plenary session in Brussels,
adopted on Thursday December 1st, 2005, a resolution condemning the
serious violations of humans right in Laos, denouncing the "appalling
repression" against the Lao-Hmongs populations in Xaysomboun, and
calling, the first time, for " a speedy holding of multiparty elections
under international monitoring'', with the participation of the
Laotians from abroad.
The Lao Movement for Human Rights (LMHR) welcomes this historical
decision of the members of Parliament from 25 European Convention
countries, and thanks them for this support to the Lao people without
right and voice.
For the LMHR, the solemn vote of this resolution, one day before the
30th anniversary of the seizure of power by the Communist Party on
December 2, 1975 in Laos, is an unprecedented snub for the Lao
totalitarian leaders.
The resolution on "the human rights situation in Cambodia, Laos and
Vietnam", to which the LMHR contributed to the preliminary works,
denounces "the limit freedom of expression, of the press, of assembly
and of religion", condemns the treatment inflicted to the "leaders of
the Movement of October 26, 1999", and the "abuses against the
Lao-Hmong people, whose humanitarian situation remains appalling''.
During the plenary debate, which lasted one hour, thirteen members of
the European Parliament spoke to denounce the exactions made by the
"authoritarian régime" which a speaker even described as a "pink
Mafia", while the European Council, through the voice of the British
minister Ian PEARSON, warned that the European Council was going to
take measures to remedy this situation by sanctions.
The European Parliament asked the Lao authorities "to release all
political prisoners and prisoners of conscience", and "to undertake
political reforms leading to democracy and the rule of law, starting
through a multi-party system and the right for all currents of opinion
to express their views".
During the vote of the text, an oral amendment, supported by the right
and left political groups, was introduced to require the one Party
leaders "to draw up and implement as soon as possible all the necessary
reforms required to democratize the Country, guarantee the peaceful
expression of political opposition, and ensure a speedy holding of
multiparty elections under international monitoring with a view to a
national reconciliation".
The LMHR is delighted by this request of the European Parliament, and
invites the international community to act with firmness, and to
maintain the pressure, including economic, on the Lao regime , so that
the contents of this resolution are applied without delay.
