'tis what puzzles me to no end, Dr. Pao. As a "society",
as a culture, prior to the 1960s, a MERE 40 years ago
only, the people people were basically a PRE-literate
society/culture, with no more than a few dozen having
through through Laos elementary schooling.
and YET today, 2005, I still HEAR and READ, daily & weekly,
from people, purported educated people, such as YOU, Dr.
Pao, who KEEP saying READING well written books about
science, technology, philosophy, medicine, chemistry,
mathematics, astronomy, literature, etc., etc. are "a
waste of time,,, because those who read too much but who
never put them to good use,,, it is useless?,,,,
I mean, I still read and hear that from YOU!
Instead, you and others here in SCH and I guess in the
"real Hmong" community --- you prefer agreements with one
another, noddings, 2-4 line "discussions" on gibberish
notions like "neeg txawj ntse" (NEEG TXAWJ NTSE, as your
colleague, Dr. Gary Yia Lee succinctly put, "are those
who came from NIAM TXIV NTXAWJ NTSE",,, what y'all mean
by such nonsensical terms: txawj, ntse, txawj thiab ntse)
Look at your curiosity, the preponderance of the "real
Hmong" community as well as SCH's topics of discussions:
They are ALMOST ABSOLUTELY devoid of ANY substantial take
on ANY issue having to do with seriousness, contemplation,
originality, scholarhsip, intellectually stimulating,
what-not,,, I mean, practically every post, including
mine, has to do with gossips, contemporary or historical
in dimensions or scope,,,
When, for example, someone brought up the point of, "You
know what?, Hmong's literacy and knowledge are so lacking,
we don't even have any thing to go by, when it comes to
terms like mathematics, astronomy, physics, nucleosynthesis,
etc. and WAHT they really entail in terms of human
konwledge ---"
You and others acutally come off, saying things like,
"WEll, we don't have words and [precise/mathematical]
knowledge when it comes to Astronomy, Chemistry, Physics,
Biolgoy, Computer Engineering, Platetectonics, etc. but
they can't deal with our very difficult knowledge and
terms like "Khawv Koob," "Hmoov," "Pov Haum," "Kabke,"
etc., either"!
I mean, really, Dr. Pao!!
But my ultimate puzzlment with people like you & others
from "the Hmong community" is, why write long, tedious,
and more or less UNREAD books on NOTHING but personal
recollection of what you think happened, or might have
happened, in the 1950s, 60s, and 70s,,, when your books
are intended for largely, if not exclusively, a Hmong
community that is largely illiterate or at best only
semi-literate which has LITTLE or no desire to read long
and difficult books anyway?,,, they and you, apparently,
prefer short, succinct, deep thoughts on deep issues YOU
and like-minds believe, honetly, modern mathematics,
chemistry, physics, etc. can not solve, that is, issues
and topics and "special knowledge" which you say modern
science has no oversight,,, it is only faith and sacred
knowledge and other such nonsense, you say [which you
hold deep and in saredness], can help heal sickness which
modern medicine is incapable of curing or issues no books
can shed lights on,,,
Just a few of my last gibberish pseudo "lectures."
