No matter what your opinion is of Watada's action,
you need to base your judgement on him as a person
as to what would make you do what he did if you had
the same idea of duty that he has. He is from a
family here of very high moral values. His father as
chair of the campaign spending commission has gone
after a lot of local politicians for their
transgressions of the campaign finance law.
We are starting to go around in circles again Alvin.
We're now talking about what basis should we make
judgements on Watada. It's not enough to just restate
your opinion.
Yes, that is what we are talking about, and I am arguing that the basis
for
his argument i.e. that he can refuse to go because it is an "illegal" war,
is as phony as a three dollar bill. He said he is willing to go to
Yugoslavia, and Afghanistan, but not Iraq. Well, if you put the three
side
by side, Afghanistan would top the list of what is an illegal war, with
Yugoslavia a close second, and Iraq a distant third.
When will you understand the following:
1. The war in Iraq is *NOT* and illegal war.
2. Watada did not refuse to go because he thinks the war is illegal. He
thinks it is immoral.
