Advertiser: Hawaii Superferry Exemption Backfired

This article surprised me on several levels. Previous reporting had
indicated it was the state that had lead the Superferry folks to
believe they didn't need an environmental impact report.

This article brings up two new (to me) points. First, it was both the
federal and state governments that convinced the company; the federal
government coerced the state into assuring *them*. And second, this
article implies that the *company* should have known better, and that
they bear the full burden.

I've long suspected we've reached the point where, as private
citizens, we are wise to simply assume that our government has no idea
what it is doing. This article stresses that point to the hilt!

The federal and state governments should share responsibility for
reimbursing the Superferry investors who, probably, are now 100%
screwed. While I'd've never invested in it (as if I could), I see no
fault on their parts in any of the articles available. In fact, they
do seem to be doing very appropriate things, trying to accommodate
those passengers and their cars scattered here 'n there, etc. Good
luck Superferry, I was looking forward to riding you... and I expect
that you're now another rustbucket in the mothball fleet. (Not that
aluminum rusts.)
