Indeed.

I wonder how much of a change we'll see here? Mean
sea level rise a few feet, perhaps? Could mean that
some "OceanView" lots become "OceanFront"? I wonder
what effect it will have on erosion....

You always want your theory to agree to the data.
That's the only "outcome" that counts. But their
integrity would be attacked if they fudged their
calculations.

I suspect in fifty years when the water levels might be
considerably higher, that we might have new sources of
energy in Hawaii that would allow us to transform the
waters and shoreline to protect existing property.
Certainly surfers in Waikiki would demand that the
increasing depth of waters which might move surfing
further offshore should be abated by filling in the
sand in offshore waters-- if natural shore action had
not already returned it back out from the beach.
