I agree. But there are only about 300 schools in the
state and we have about a million people. If we expect
to be prepared for that same kind of hurricane that
struck NO, then we we really need to commandeer all
public and private office buildings and structures that
could withstand such strong winds.
And in the future, govt should encourage concrete
homes, so at least one member of a large family could
shelter every other member of the family in his/her
home. Homes now in the $600,000 range might have some
tax incentives to the developer if it is concrete, or
at least a significant portion is concrete. Bags of
cement and recycled glass sand could be provided free
or at low cost for people who remodel-- so at least a
wall or two of concrete would provide some shelter to
high winds.
