You missed the point. Please reread the Subject header. While the quotes
above were not aimed directly at N.O. but, rather, at hurricanes in
general, and Hawaii hurricanes in particular, there will always be
people who CHOOSE to stay behind. News reporters did interviews earlier
in the week with gulf coast survivors missing family members; those
family members CHOOSING to 'ride out the storm' by steadfastly staying
in their homes. I've personally witnessed that happen in previous
hurricanes. But they, by no means, come close to being the majority of
those caught in the disaster. Seeing the pictures and watching the news
doesn't change the fact that there are and always will be people (both
rich and poor, black and white) who will CHOOSE to not honor the order
to evacuate. For those old enough to remember Fats Domino...he was one
of them. The news aired his rescue and his family admitted to his
ignoring evacuation orders. Several people I saw interview admitted to
feeling that, since they'd survived a previous hurricane or 2, they
could do it again. It appeared their experience this time taught them an
almost fatal lesson.

At the risk of redundancy, I've seen it happen.

This thread's topic is hurricane preparedness in Hawaii, not Hurricane
Katrina. No one was taking a swipe at N.O....esp. me. I have a friend
and former client who I've not been able to locate.

I thought you'd been following this thread but maybe not. The point you
make has been addressed. N.O. suffered a triple disaster...a hurricane,
a flood and the government's lack of response.

Shhh...don't tell Condi Rice!

There are many journalists who have similarly summed it up. I agree with
them. Most people I personally know and have talked with agree with
them.

Again, it might behoove you to reread this thread from it's beginning.
The topic is "Hurricanses in Hawaii?"! 'Nuff said...
