This is an interesting article. It would seem that the
writers would support the Akaka Bill since it
establishes rights of Hawaiians as an indigenous
people. Here's a quote from the article:
"Rather, Hawaiians are asserting human rights not
simply the right to be equal but to self-determination;
[...] not a right to special treatment but to reconnect
spiritually with land and culture; not a right to
equality but a form of self-education and
[self-]governance."
They make the point that Hawaii without Hawaiians would
not be Hawaii....They have the human right to preserve
their own culture.
