DEPOSED Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide's doctoral thesis,
accepted by the University of South Africa (Unisa), has been lambasted
as a "disaster" and a "farce".

This is according to Afrikaans Sunday paper Rapport, which revealed
yesterday that four prominent academics had slammed the doctoral
thesis aimed at exploring the relationship between Zulu and Haitian
Creole.

Three African language specialists, Prof Lionel Posthumus of the
University of Johannesburg, retired Unisa professor Louis Louwrens and
retired University of Pretoria professor Arnett Wilkes, said the
thesis made a mockery of African languages. Aristide's chapter on
theology was labelled a "disaster".
