Who (What) is Behind Marc Bazin' s Candidacy

Kanmarad,
I hope to be able to contribute here to an instructive discussion about
the upcoming "elections" in Haiti.
The issue of Marc Bazin's candidacy is, in my opinion, an important
element to analyze in the present juncture.
>>From the get go, let me disclose that I approach a Bazin candidacy with
suspicion 1) because of his strange trajectory; 2) because of the need
the coup people have to fabricate a "Fanmi Lavalas" participation in
the "elections" in order to cover-up the coup, occupation, the loss of
Haitian sovereignty in all matters - icluding the so-called electoral
process and all sort other ILLEGAL and UNDEMOCRATIC mud in which they
have now engulfed Haiti.
The article below: Haiti politics: Stumbling towards elections
from THE ECONOMIST INTELLIGENCE UNIT is quite revealing in my opinion.
In particular, please check out the following sentences:
http://www.viewswire.com/index.asp?layout=display_article&doc_id=1529536138
1) A bold admission that Washington wants Aristide exiled but 'needs'
his decapitated party Fanmi Lavalas in the elections:
"Washington is also determined not to allow Mr Aristide to return to
Haiti, but his Lavalas party will play an important role in the
election".
2) Recognition that the majority of the Haitian population is with
Fanmi Lavalas
"The majority of Haitians are believed to still identify with the
party".
3) Admission that Fanmi Lavalas was not able to register its chosen
candidate
"Its most popular leader, Roman Catholic priest Gérard Jean-Juste,
has been jailed since July 21st and was not allowed to register as a
presidential candidate".
4) A bold lie
"...two members of Mr Aristide's government will run as
independents: former Prime Minister Marc Bazin and former President
René Preval".
5) Prefaced by a statement of truth
"Lavalas ultimately registered no candidate of its own, but..."
I find it hard to believe that the author of this article honestly
ignores the fact that MARC BAZIN IS NOT A MEMBER OF MR. ARISTIDE's
GOVERNMENT AND THAT NEITHER IS RENÉ PRÉVAL.
Indeed, these men served in previous Aristide governments but not the
one that was toppled by coup d'état on February 29, 2004 as this
article cleverly suggests by omission of clarification. Further, they
are not running as independants. Preval is running under the banner of
LESPWA while Bazin is running under the banner of UNION (MIDH +
Desgranges, Feuillé and cie.).
Again, I do not think these are oversights.
This single paragraph in the article raises important questions when
one puts it in proper context. That is, understanding how the
mainstream media - still pushing the Washington-Ottawa-Paris line is
finding it ever more difficult to hide the utter failure of the Bush
ordered regime change in Haiti. But, instead they are trying to present
it as yet another manifestation that Haitians have failed and that
Haiti has "become" a failed state - not because of - but
despite their best efforts to "help".
That is why you see recurring stories popping up on the alternating
themes of "Haitian despair" - Some are now longing for a return of
DUVALIER we are told - right !, and others express the "need for a
benevolent foreign occupation of Haiti" - "White men burden" and
"responsibility to protect" is the same thing. But, it's better to
dress it up and present it as a "popular demand".
So, things become simpler if most of the wrong can be blamed first on
Aristide, the bad leader who betrayed his people. Then, blame the other
black leaders (Latortue) who couldn't deliver - despite all the
back-up we provided him...
WHO IS REALLY PUSHING FOR MARC BAZIN AND/ OR PREVAL TO BE ASSOCIATED
WITH FANMI LAVALAS BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY, AS IF THEY WERE UNDER THE
PARTY'S TICKET ?
WHY COULDN'T BAZIN SIMPLY RUN UNDER HIS OWN PARTY (MIDH) ?
WHY DON'T FEUILLÉ, DESGRANGES OR VOLTAIRE ASSUME THEIR
RESPONSIBILITIES AND RUN AS "REBEL FANMI LAVALAS" CANDIDATES?
And now, enters Marc Bazin who has always been the ultimate imperialist
puppet.....dressed up in "Lavalas clothing". This is indeed Halloween !
....and, who is with him...? The same folks Denis Coderre, Advisor to
Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin, had identified as "suitable"
replacements for Aristide within Fanmi Lavalas and who tried but failed
to get any support from the Lavalas base in Haiti (Desgranges and
company).
So, in my opinion, Marc Bazin is nothing more than another phase in the
theft of Haitian Sovereignty by the arrogant foreign diplomats who
behave as if they are better suited than Haitians to decide who should
rule Haiti.
I stand by my August 2005 OP-Ed published in Embassy News:
http://www.embassymag.ca/html/index.php?display=story&full_path=/2005/august/24/haiti/
"So, could authentic elections be held in today's Haiti? The answer
is linked to the willingness of powerful countries like Canada to let
Haitians control their destiny and determine the political fate of
their leaders...
...The just grievances of Haiti's impoverished, now humiliated,
disempowered and marginalized majority are still being ignored. What is
urgently needed, as recommended by Thabo Mbeki and Nelson Mandela's
African National Congress (ANC), is a genuine peace initiative that
actively and respectfully engages exiled President Aristide as well as
his opponents...
....our cry will continue to resonate loud and clear: No to sham
elections in Haiti! Yes to genuine and fair elections, following the
release of all political prisoners and the return of Haiti's exiled
constitutional president, Jean-Bertrand Aristide".
