It's a very interesting concept...which is NOT democractic in any way
shape or form. I like it actually BUT the entire process by which you
describe this has one major flaw: the McArthur Foundation receives
donations, grants, etal and has the limited pleasure of endowing a
prize, a recognition if you will, and that's all. Nominating someone
into a position of incredible power immediately makes the nominatimng
board the most powerful entity in the land and since in your premise is
based on thsi simple idea, this would make it even more dictatorial and
open to severe corruption.

But I will say where I do like the idea: doing away with self-promotion
and assessments on appearances. But by isolating the voting procedure
from the people and putting it itno the hands of the few is elitist and
far more dangerous then electing a demagogue into power...
