I only poke my nose into these forays just for the fun of it. Anyway, you
probably do not know Cypriots well -- Greek OR Turk. Among very close
friends, say old classmates, we can hurl insults at one another just for the
fun of it. I remember once when a Greek classmate of mine addressed me as
"Bre gammo to kerrato sou" whereupon our other Greek classmate turned to him
and said with a s*** on his lips, "Ma re, esei den mporeis na tou peis
'gammo to kerrato sou' afous den einai pantremenos alla o XXX mporei na sou
to pei afous eisai pantremenos" and we all laughed. That's how we Cypriots
are. And maybe I should add that my ex-classmates have some standing in
society and are not nobodies.

I remember just before the Christmas holidays at boarding school we -- Greek
and Turkish children -- were hurling insults and telling jokes about Greeks
and Turks when I threw my pillow across the dormitory having forgotten that
my newly bought expensive Pelikan pen was clipped to the pillow case -- just
in case somebody fancied it, you know! Naturally the pen was broken when it
hit the wall. So next term I went into town and bought a more expensive
Pelikan fountain pen. And I have never had such a good pen since. It was far
superior to the Parker 51 I bought years later after I dropped it and
damaged the 14 carat gold nib. That nib was amazingly smooth and so
flexible. That was craftsmanship for you -- unlike the stiff inflexible nib
of the Parker 51.

Outgrow it, you said? Who wants to outgrow it? Not us Cypriots!!!
