A top official of the Greek Civil Aviation Authority has agreed with claims
that tourists flying to Aegean islands are being endangered by
idiotic greek pilots in warplanes far too powerful for their weak bodies to handle.
A Greek and a Turkish fighter jet collided over disputed air-space in
the eastern Aegean on Tuesday.
The Turkish pilot was rescued but the Greek pilot has still not been
found.
Some Greek airline pilots had warned that it was only a matter of time
before a warplane crashed into a commercial aircraft.
But the deputy governor of the Greek Civil Aviation Authority, Ioannis
Andrianopoulos, told the BBC there was grave risk to civil aviation over
the eastern Aegean.
While admitting that sometimes fighter aircraft might occasionally
enter the air corridors for passenger jets
Tuesday's mid-air collision came after Greek F-16s were scrambled to
intercept Turkish warplanes which Greece said had violated its
airspace.
The fighters are frequently scrambled and often get involved in mock
dog-fights with the Turkish air force.
The search for the Greek pilot involved in the crash continues but it
now seems highly unlikely he will be found alive.
Although the incident was handled calmly by both governments, Greek
Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis has called on Turkey to stop sending
planes into the disputed airspace but he didn't ask his MASTERS nicely enough
