My family are from Ilo-ilo and Negros, if you can find an *** there,
they are my relatives. Usually from the ruling classes, I cannot
identify with them. My American father isolated us from them when he
married my mother.

lots of a holes anywhere. some in this ng too . i guess a holes are
like flies they are all over. but regarding your elite illongo
relos. i can understand the mentality of your ilonggo relos more
specially if they belong to the elite in that island. they probably
lived like haciendero hogs so its no wonder they are pining for
the good old days ng. as isaid once people are products of their
environment. does it excuse bad behavior ? probably not. . all you
can do is ignore em snd hope one day they will see the light.

Well..
Don't need too may assholes.

Hiligaynon has a lot of Spanish words and spoken in the proper context
unlike Tagalog where most Spanish loan words becomes Tagalized and usage
were changed for the most part.

as i said saw that myself being with my illonggo relos
particularly my departed lola mama[ she was hardcore but not rich
like your relos. she was more the hispanized employee of the rich
people [ kusinera really] ] . thats why i can relate a little bit
with that hispanic culture observation in philippines thingie
since there are words that are familiar or acts that seem familiar
since i heard or saw some before in the illongo language or old
culture.

btw tanso i might go to playa del carmen mexico this sept 23 . you
wanna explore the yucatan pyramids with me ? i need a kodaker to
prove i was there[ hehehe]. wifey cant go. ditto my kids. my guilt
trip gimmick on my wife seem to be working since she is now more
amenable on me going there instead of just canceling it .

Been there before, don't need another trip there.

Ilo-ilo and Negros had closer relationship with their colonial masters,
being in sugar fields and working closely.

too true. plus imo the illonggos are quite proud of their being part
hispanic because it equates in their mind to being cosmopolitan or
cultured [ no matter how they deny it]. its just who they are. tell
people there you are from mindanao and you still get reactions such
as " you must be muslim [with the implication that being one is
kinda negative]. "

I noticed that, yeah..

John Leddy Phelan missed this part since his book "Hispanization of the
Philippines" was mostly Tagalog experience as well, where working
knowledge of Spanish did not create a formal Spanish know-how among
natives. It did happen at a certain point in my grandfather's
island(s?).. Just like yours it seems.

I like being Tagalog because from what I found using the 1623
diccionario, Tagalog barely changed from then, while most Bisaya did,
well, except for Warays who did not adopt as much Spanish like Tagalogs.

my dads folks are from cavite the bellybotton of filipino nationalism
and katagalogan .mix that with my moms illongo part then send me to
be born in mindanao [ where he hears stories about the hardheadedness
and back handed nationalism of the muslims and you got a good
cocktail.

So, this post that you took, was intended actually for my own relatives
who are the champions of Hispanicity in Pinas, from my research into my
mother's relatives they are the people you will want to hate, if you
hate colonial mentality.

They are good people, but something I fight with all the time is their
belief in the superiority of Spanish contributions in Filipino culture,
than even the native culture.

You will find their editorials all over the net, one example name you
can google is: Guillermo Gomez-rivera. Search his pedigree as well, you
might realize why I am so.- Hide quoted text -

question
do i need a visa to go to mexico?

how much money do i need to take to have decent activities?[ i
like kayak, jungle tours or pyramid tours]

If you are a citizen of the US, no need but keep your passport to come
back!!

You can walk to the places where the pyramids are, you don't need
anything except your feet!!

Go swimming, it is fine, I liked it.- Hide quoted text -

looking at the yucatan area website i can see why lots of spanols
preferred to adventure in the americas than infar forsaken place
like the pinas . thats why they have impregnated more girls in mexico
and created more meztisos and there is less in the pinas and spanish
is almost dead there. boy was the pinas lucky hehehe
