The Di$$idents who cried, Wolf!!!

It has been over 12 days now since Granma International posted the
statements of Soto's family, his doctor and two eye-witnesses at his
arrest (http://www.granma.cu/ingles/cuba-i/12may-Testimonies.html).
They all confirm earlier police reports that Soto died of natural
causes, and that he was not beaten by arresting officers 3 days
earlier as "dissident" sources have alleged.

It seems just about every "dissident" in Cuba with any international
profile whatsoever (there are really only a handful) has tried in turn
to put forward one supposed "witness" after another to attempt to
discredit the testimonies of Soto's family -- one even posted a video
on the internet. Sadly for these "dissidents," judging by Google News
coverage at this time anyway, it seems the capitalist mainstream
media have shown little or no interest in their latest lies . Quite a
turn of fortune in just a few days. It seems the report from Granma
has been widely accepted as the final word in this case.

Like the boy who cried, wolf, it seems these "dissidents" told just
one lie too many. As Miami Herald staffer, Juan Tamayo, put it
diplomatically, "International reactions to Soto’s death on Sunday
appear more muted so far, apparently because of the conflicting
versions of the beating, the ill health of the 46-year-old dissident
and questions about the exact cause of his death."
http://www.miamiherald.com/2011/05/12/2214603/granma-police-did-not-beat-cuba.html

We have already seen in the past here, other, less spectacular
examples of Cuban "dissidents" lying about their encounters with
police. See:

With this latest incident, the credibility of all Cuban "dissidents"
-- Farinas, Yoani Sanchez, and Martha Beatrix Roque, in particular --
seems to have been thoroughly trashed.

From recent WikiLeaks, we have seen what their US paymasters really
think about them. In a top secret report to his superiors, US
Interests Section chief in Havana, Jonathan Farrar wrote:

"It is worth asking what the Cuban political opposition is doing and
the role it may play in the future. Two recent op-ed pieces in the
international press that have infuriated dissident leaders argue that
the answers are: not much and none.... Though dissidents have reacted
very negatively to the articles in the international press, the fact
is that they contain more than a grain of truth....

"We see very little evidence that the mainline dissident organizations
have much resonance among ordinary Cubans. Informal polls we have
carried out among visa and refugee applicants have shown virtually no
awareness of dissident personalities or agendas....

"Despite claims that they represent 'thousands of Cubans,' we see
little evidence of such support, at least from the admittedly limited
vantage point we have in Havana. When we question opposition leaders
about their programs, we do not see platforms designed to appeal to a
broad cross section of Cuban society. Rather, the greatest effort is
directed at obtaining enough resources to keep the principal
organizers and their key supporters living from day to day...

"With seeking resources as a primary concern, the next most important
pursuit seems to be to limit or marginalize the activities of
erstwhile allies, thus preserving power and access to scarce
resources...

In short, Farrar sees them as a bunch of money-grubbing losers who
couldn't get elected dogcatchers. To this, we can now add, liars.

As predicted there, having gone down in flames AGAIN, the cowardly PL
could only hope to confuse and exhaust readers by posting dozens of
identical, off-topic postings (each repeatedly debunked here) in an
attempt to muddy the waters and cover up for yet ANOTHER propaganda
fiasco. Watch now as, in all likelihood, PL reposts them all again
here. What a loser!
