Imprisoned dissident says his trial was unfair
HAVANA, Cuba, Oct. 1 (Luís Cino, www.cubanet.org) -Joel Lázaro Carbonell, president of the dissident Free Cubans organization, said from his prison cell that he was given a one-year sentence at a trial that ignored his rights.
"Once more injustice triumphs," he said in a letter smuggled out of the Valle Grande prison. He said he wasn't allowed to make a statement in his defense.
Carbonell, 33, was found guilty of "disobedience and resistance" in a trial Sept 15, held four days after he was arrested in his home by National Revolutionary Police.
