The sentiment shared by too many in the region, as expressed for example
by the presidents and foreign ministers of Ecuador and Honduras at the
OAS summit, considers Cuba's 50-year old dynastic totalitarianism a
''different kind of democracy,'' ''a legal and legitimate representative
of its people,'' an ''acceptable one party state.''
It is as they say. See "Democracy in Cuba" at my website. More and
more, people are seeing through your lies and disinformation.
Sadly enough, the
discourse of governments such as Brazil, Argentina and Mexico is full of
moral ambiguity and confusion, and does not confront this verbal assault
of the very basic notions of human rights.
What could be more morally ambiguous than a regime that supports what
amounts to genocidal trade sanctions against the Cuba people. As
another conservative commentator at the Herald suggested recently
(from you own posting):
"Latin American countries may interpret Wednesday's agreement
differently, and say that Cuba already abides by the OAS' overall
principles, and that its deviations from some OAS rules are no worse
than Washington's trade embargo on Cuba. Brazil's President Luiz
Inácio Lula da Silva said Wednesday that he is optimistic that OAS
member countries will find a way to readmit Cuba to the organization
'within months.'''
