The exposure of the "lobbyist" lie in further detail.[snip]
No lies, Mr. Lobbyist -- just your own words coming back to haunt you
(see below). Following are PL’s own statements over a period of weeks
from the summer of 2001 describing his lobbying efforts. Several years
later, he now claims he was not lobbying at all but simply offering
his friends "travel tips." In the current version of his story (there
is at least one other), he supposedly advised some high-powered
Belgian cabinet ministers to stay at private bed-and-breakfast rooming
houses, and to avoid the big tourist resorts. That, he tells us, is
the full extent of his “lobbying.” (What is he REALLY lobbying about?
See below for some indication.)
As readers can verify for themselves, this just doesn’t fit his
previous statements (below). Lobbying, after all, is the attempt to
influence not the actions of individual politicians on their
vacations, but the actions of GOVERNMENTS.
We begin his description of his lobbying effort in general terms:
"I can do a lot more staying here [in Belgium] ... by lobbying the
European parliament, the Belgian government."
http://groups.google.ca/group/soc.culture.puerto-rico/msg/ca5e99f8f48748ec
He can do a lot more by getting politicians to stay at bed-and-
breakfast rooms in Cuba??? Hmmmm...
"I 'lobby' them [members of the Belgium and European Parliaments] in
the sense that I speak to people I know for ages or meet in the
European parliament to inform them on Cuba."
http://groups.google.ca/group/soc.culture.cuba/msg/9cfde811fd6c7414?d
Inform them about bed-and-breakfast rooms in Cuba??? Get real!
Here, PL links his lobbying effort to these mysterious Belgian
government ministers staying at Club Med:
"I can 'lobby' 4 MEP's [Members of the European Parliament] and two
ministers in Belgium [members of cabinet] by going to the confrmation
dinner of my godchild. I can also 'lobby' these MEP's at our squash
games. Check with Club Med in Varadero on which Belgian ministers
stayed there and get back to me."
http://groups.google.com/group/soc.culture.cuba/msg/2602f5eb5bd1c2ed?
Why is PL bragging here about these Belgian ministers at a posh
singles resort (Club Med) if the supposed aim of his “lobbying” was to
have them stay at a bed-and-breakfast rooms? Wouldn't this then be an
embarrassment and not a great triumph, as he seems to suggest here. He
is not clear on this point.
Curious, the next day after he posted this statement, I asked him,
“All the way to Varadero to lobby some Belgian ministers?” He didn’t
deny lobbying them. On the contrary, he replied:
"I don't have to go to Varadeo. People talk to me before they go to
Cuba... I just offer people an opportunity to see things for
themselves."
http://groups.google.com/group/soc.culture.cuba/msg/4925d2f003a9fb82?
Asked later what he tells them, PL replied:
"The truth (sic) and I invited them to go to Cuba and see the
situation for themselves."
http://groups.google.com/group/soc.culture.cuba/msg/f3defd8a7d23d608
So, forget this bed-and-breakfast bullshit! Inviting big-shot
politicians to go to Cuba and offering them opportunities to, ahem…
see things for themselves at a posh singles resort -- now that’s
lobbying! That would be something to brag about! Right, Mr. Lobbyist?
What Dan claimed on his website (the misquote):
"Today, for the first time, Amnesty International has explicitly
denounced the US embargo on Cuba in humanitarian terms, and made clear
its support for the immediate and unconditional lifting of these cruel
sanctions"http://members.allstream.net/~dchris/CubaFAQ215.html
From the Amnesty International report in question:
"Amnesty International calls for the lifting of sanctions where it
believes the continuation of sanctions might contribute to grave human
rights abuses. A review of the impact of the US embargo against Cuba
and other related policies in this regard is deeply worrying.
"The overwhelming evaluation of the relevant UN agencies is that the
US embargo against Cuba is highly detrimental to Cubans' enjoyment of
a range of economic, social and cultural rights. Moreover, much of
their analysis indicates that the negative effects of the embargo are
felt disproportionately, not by the decision-makers and authorities
whose policies the embargo is aimed at influencing, but by the weakest
and most vulnerable members of the population." (AI website)
And if that was too subtle for you, Mr. Lobbyist, AI subsequently
reiterated their condemnation of your beloved embargo saying:
"Amnesty International has called for the US embargo against Cuba to
be lifted, as it is highly detrimental to Cubans' enjoyment of a range
of economic, social and cultural rights, such as the right to food,
health and sanitation - particularly affecting the weakest and most
vulnerable members of the population. According to UNICEF, the
availability of medicines and basic medical materials has decreased in
Cuba as a consequence of the US embargo against the island." (AI
website)
Last year, they reported:
"The effects of the US embargo continued to be highly detrimental to
the enjoyment of a range of economic, social and cultural rights --
such as the right to food, health and sanitation -- by Cubans, and
especially by the most vulnerable members of the population." (AI
website)
In March of this year:
"Amnesty International urges the US government to lift the nearly five-
decade long economic and trade embargo against Cuba as it is
detrimental to the fulfillment of the economic and social rights of
the Cuban people. It obstructs and constrains efforts by the Cuban
government to purchase essential medicines, medical equipment and
supplies, food and agricultural products, construction materials and
access to new technologies. The embargo also denies Cuban-Americans
their right to travel freely to their country of origin. The embargo
has been overwhelmingly rejected by the United Nations General
Assembly for the past seventeen years.
"Although the US administration has recently eased remittances and
travel restrictions for Cuban-Americans, and has allowed US companies
more flexibility in selling food and medicine to Cuba, these measures
are limited to the end of the current fiscal year. Nevertheless,
Amnesty International hopes that they herald a comprehensive review of
US foreign policy towards Cuba."

(Clearly, even AI is unimpressed with the USA's recent non-gesture
toward Cuba!)
PL would actually have you believe that, despite their obvious
condemnation of his beloved embargo here, AI would actually support
these cruel sanctions of his for as long as it takes of his
"preconditions" to be met! Yes, he really is that desperate, that
stupid and that cruel! (Here we get some indication of what PL's
lobbying is REALLY all about?) Whatever it takes, right, Mr.
Lobbyist?
Until you man enough to face up to your dirty deeds and to what you
really are, do not expect a reply from me on these matters, Mr.
Lobbyist.
