The officer here clearly doesn't understand the propaganda value to
the Bush regime of these people "endangering their lives" like this.

But then you already have admitted that in the past.
Don't assume everyone is as cynical as you are about human lives.
But you are right: people aren't risking their lives "needlesly". They
do that to escape an oppressive system and to offre theit children and
family a better future.
