It should be anyone that wants that can stand for free and fairYou have never been able to prove that any sort "intimidation"
elections and face a secret ballot.
The "show of hands" to "select" a candidate in Cuba exposes people to
pressure from the likes of the CDR set up to defend the regime and
given extensive powers to sanction people directly or obliged to
report them for sanctioning.
actually occurs in the voting process.
Just the testimony of over a MILLION Cubans who have fled it Danny boy.
Says you, Kennykins -- a known pathological liar and the winner of
three consecutive SCC Loser of the Year Awards (for 2004, 2005 and
2006)! You will have to do better than this.
By far, it seems the majority of Cubans "fled" for the same reasons
many more Mexicans "fled" their country -- for economic reasons.
Two differences:
- Mexico has imprived a lot over the years since the PRI fell.
The exodus slowed down.
You mean more "effective" enforcement -- high-tech surveillance,
private vigilante groups, etc.
Mexico was far behind Cuba and the US in 1960.
- Cubans also fled massively for political reasons to such an extent
that Castro had to close his borders to stop them leaving.
Not even the US immigration authorities are buying into this bullshit.
Why should we? Unable to establish any proof of political persecution,
almost all illegal Cuban immigrants intercepted at sea are quickly
repatriated by US authorities.
see:http://www.cubaverdad.net/freedom_of_movement.htm
Cuba went from the third developed nation in the Americas to a third
world nation. The "economic necessity" of Cuba is the result of the
political system that refuses all change and denies Cubans even the hope
of improvement and change, something Mexicans have.
It is the result of your beloved embargo. Again, even Amnesty
International condemned it earlier this year, saying:
"Amnesty International has called for the US embargo against Cuba to
be lifted, as it is highly detrimental to Cubans' enjoyment of a range
of economic, social and cultural rights, such as the right to food,
health and sanitation - particularly affecting the weakest and most
vulnerable members of the population. According to UNICEF, the
availability of medicines and basic medical materials has decreased in
Cuba as a consequence of the US embargo against the island." (AI
website)
(BTW, we are STILL waiting for your comments on this. What seems to be
the problem, Mr. Lobbyist?)
Even the UN Human Rights Commission, in reports critical of Cuba, was
forced to concede:
"It is also impossible to ignore the disastrous and lasting economic
and social effects of the embargo imposed on the Cuban population over
40 years ago." (SCC archives)
Makes you proud, don't it, America? (See featured article, "Is the US
embargo a form of genocide?" at my website.)
Despite the best efforts of all you embargo-Nazis, however, Cuba
continues to lead the region in health care and education. How many
doctors has Mexico sent to aid its neighbours or to impoverished
countries around the world? How many foreign doctors has it trained
free-of-charge?
The average Cuban has nothing to gain from Latin-American-style
capitalism. Without your genocidal embargo to contend with, Cuba would
no doubt be a world leader in these and other vital areas -- your
worst nightmare, eh, Mr. Lobbyist? (See featured article, "What do
Cubans stand to lose, and who stands to gain?" at my website.)
