Re: "What's behind U.S. calls for 'transition' in Cuba? Cubans defend revolution say no return to capitalist past" (The MIlitant)

Excellant post. It provides some real food for thought.

The priority now is for both sides to allow for freedom of
communications. No more insults comming from junior State Department
officials. No more fight to the death comments on the Cuban side. This
is childish and serves no ones purpose.

There is a door that is being held open now. A window of opportunity
for all sides to reset priorities and start real, productive and
mutually benficial dialogue and cooperative operations.

Cuba needs to acknowledge that they are truly willing to work
collectively with others to end this needless antagonism between Cuba
and the U.S. and to work toward a better future for all people in both
nations.

There is no reason why Cuba and the U.S. should not be the closest of
allies and friends. Both should respect each others soverienty and work
together as equals. There is absolutely no reason why we could not
overcome any and all obstacles to creating that freindship.

The U.S. is dedicated in its mission to bring Freedom, Liberty and
Democracy to all nations of this planet. This is the calling of history
and the Great Work. This does not mean at the end of a gun or thru
regime change. They truly believe that this is a universal right of all
human beings and in this belief they are absolutely correct. in their
hearts they are good people and would much rather work collectively and
peacefully with nations rather then thru conflict. I know this may not
seem to be the case given recent world events but it is none the less
the truth. They truly desire to work peacefully with others nations
where ever possible. Cuba represents and opportunity for the U.S. to
demonstrate it's truest desire which is to work with nations in a
benign and peaceful manner.

Cuba has no reason to fear allowing her citizens to benefit from higher
order principles of Freedom, Liberty and Democracy, if it does not
destroy the great works they have achieved thus far and if it truly
benefits their citizens. Think of it as the second revolution. Was it
not Mr. Castro's own wish that the revolution never end? This can be
achieved if such change is introduced gradually, carefully and in a
controlled manner thru existing government institutions and procedures.
There need not be any chaos or loss of what has already been achieved
if everyone simply works together in a careful and thoughtful way.

There are those in the U.S. that believe that neither Fidel, Raul or
other high ranking Cuban leaders would be willing to work together with
the U.S. and other interested parties in exploring the possibilities
introducing such higher order principles could provide for both
nations. Even if doing so means not losing the benefits the revolution
has brought.

Raul has made it known that he and his brother as well as the other
important Cuban leaders are willing to pursue normalized relations with
the U.S. What is needed now is to reafirm this desire to eventually
normalize relations and to acknowledge their support for at least
exploring ways to allow their people to benefit from higher order
Freedom, Liberty and Democracy. Again, not at the cost of what has
already been achieved.

Those in the U.S. need to see that there is a sincere and geniune
desire to at least explore the possibities and the potential to work
together in an equal and mutually respectful manner with those
empowered by the Cuban people to make such important decisions and
carry out such historic mutually beneficial operations.

The ball is now in your court my Cuban friends. I can promise you that
the right people in the U.S. are watching all this and will be aware of
your response. I and other interested parties will be watching Granma
for your comments and thoughts.

We implore both sides to sieze this moment in history to change the
relations between Cuba and the U.S. to one of mutual respect and
friendship. Nothing is impossible if we work together and treat each
other as we should have been all along, as friends.

Your friend,

Me
