Sergio Corrieri, president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with
the Peoples (ICAP), praised international solidarity with the Cuban
Revolution during 2005.
Some 1,866 solidarity organizations, active in 134 countries, are
battling the U.S. economic and financial blockade against Cuba, and
have held 28 national and international support meetings.
Corrieri told reporters in Havana that there are 247 groups in 84
countries that are calling for the release of the Five Cuban prisoners,
currently held in the U.S. for fighting terrorism. He added that 1,550
brigade members from 50 countries have done voluntary work on the
island this year and said that the movement is helping implement 26
socio-economic projects on the island.
Corrieri said the number of solidarity publications also grew in 2005
-- with 1,433 activities related to the U.S. blockade and another 1,013
