The COC should get a prompt confirmation as to whether the American
advisors, consultants, songwriters, etc. are going to honor their
contracts.  My earlier feedback was that they are paid very
generously.  If they intend to break their contracts then get that in
writing.  Start legal proceedings to sue them big bucks.   That's the
American Way.  Sue them both in US courts and in Chinese courts.
Start with Spielberg.  He was employed as an advisor.  He is not the
type who works for free.  Since he broke his contract on political and
not on artistic grounds sue him.

Hope so for SS's sake. But there must be some sort of formal
agreement even if it is only for expenses. The lawyers should take
a good look as to what was agreed on. In any case there should be a
good look at all the agreements and contracts with foreigners. The
architects have finished their work and done an excellent job. I
don't think there are too many outsiders working on the Beijing
Olympics*. It looks like only the US media consultants who will be the
likely renegades. That songwriter is likely to back out or if not,
write a lousy song that cannot be used. As I said, why not make it an
all China production.

*(There is a very wellknown ethnic Chinese graphics designer in my
city Edmonton who has teamed up with another Chinese graphics designer
from California to produce print designs and material for the Beijing
Olympics. I know this guy socially, meaning only when our paths cross
we'll chat like old friends.)

Earlier Olympics displays tended to be mass military style exercises
and I still prefer those. Over the past 10 years the international
sports meets ceremonies have used a neutral Peace on the World theme.
The parades I have seen so far are adaptations of Caribbean stilt
walkers with frilly voodoo kind of motifs. One or two such parades
may be interesting at first. But now I find them unimaginative and
worn out.

Spielberg never signed his contract. Spielberg has been aware of PRC's
involvemnt in helping Sudan Arabs kill black Africans for months.

I hope you realize what you are implying. So SS knew all along and
worked for something like three years on the project. SS had long
ago harbored the intention to back off at the last minute in order to
embarass China and to sabotage the Olympics Ceremonies. Now if you
think that very gentlemanly, moral and righteous for SS to do so why
am I not surprised.
