There are lots of reports on TV and in the China online news sources
on the snowsotrm that is causing widespread disruptions over a wide
swathe of China. I didn't see any commentary on the upside that it is
exactrly what China needs, precipitation. Many parts of the same
areas had experienced drought for a number of years and there is a
very real danger of farms failing and industries idled for want of
water. This precipitation is far more beneficial and important than
any damage the snowfall can cause. A search turnjed up this obscure
source. But it has got the emphasis on the drought relief part right.
The dateline March 4 is a kind of weird though.
China snowstorm brings drought relief, disruptions
The strongest March snowstorm to hit northeast China's Liaoning
province in 56 years

The strongest March snowstorm to hit northeast China's Liaoning
province in 56 years caused drifts up to 2m, and strong winds forced
highway closures and flight cancellations, state media reported today.
Rain and snow fell across many parts of northern China, including
Beijing and Tianjin municipalities, Inner Mongolia and Ningxia
autonomous regions over the past two days, Xinhua news agency
reported, bringing precipitation to areas that have experienced a
serious drought.
The central meteorological observatory forecast that rainfall will
continue in most parts of north China over the next two days. The
snowstorm in Shenyang forced Taoxian International Airport to close
early today, with more than 100 flights cancelled and more than 1 000
passengers stranded at the airport by mid-afternoon.
Eleven expressways in Liaoning were closed after rain and snow began
falling last night. The Shenyang Meteorological Observatory reported
precipitation of 42.9mm in Shenyang as of 5pm today. - Reuters
There was a report on ABC Evening News about snowstorm hitting China
causing train delays and travelers sleeping on train stations and
airports throughout the big cities in China wanting to go back to
their home villages for the new year.- Hide quoted text -

The desperate travellers have been taken care of pretty well, much
better than what the US government did to those states that were hit
by 'sanrmie'
last time.
