where is the line of "too far beyond" and not "too far beyond."
Where do you put your priority does decide where you stand.
There is nothing wrong to know one's own history, and I do concur
with you that one without the knowledge of history is one without
a root. But the point being that one shouldn't totally immerse
oneself inside the cesspool of history, and then drown in it. The
priority should be put forward, into the future, not tomorrow,
but 5 years, 10 years, 50 years or even 100 years ahead.
If one read the Chinese history and proud of its past achievement,
is he totally immersing himself in the cesspool of history.
If one read history text (not only Chinese, it could be Egyptian, or
Greek, or Hindi, or whatever), and comes away feeling very proud of
his/her ancestors' past achievement, then that fella has a big
problem.
What is past is past. Your grand-daddy might be a multi-billionaire,
but if you don't even have a coin in your pocket, you are _still_ a
beggar.
Everything boils down to NOW.
What are you NOW?
What do you do NOW?
What achievement do you have NOW?
Yep, you can always spend your days day-dreaming about the past
achievement of that grand-daddy of yours, you of course have the full
right to day dream. But what is the use?
Will the day-dreaming gets you anywhere?
Same thing with them chinks out there. Day-dreaming about the glory of
ancient China. Yeah, 600 ships in Song dynasty. Yeah, even the sultan
of Malacca kow tow to the emperor of China. Yeah, if the Chinese
didn't invent paper, we wouldn't have paper money today. Yeah, if the
Chinese didn't discover compass, no plane, nor ship, nor satellites,
can go anywhere.
Yep, those chinks are still having their daily wet-dreams.
But will that takes us anywhere, like NOW?
Them chinks do nothing but day dreaming, while the gooks, the yanks,
the japs and the europees are forging ahead. Do you honestly think
those chinks got any future?
History is just a mirror into the past. If we want to become better,
we can study the mistakes people of ancient past did, so we won't
repeat it.
And please do not forget that pride begats a lot of bad things,
including arrogance, jealousy, and eventually fall.
Yes. Pride is a form of self-love. So it is associate with a lot of
bad things.
On the other hand, pride is also a form of self-respect. One may be
poor. But
his pride may preclude him from being a thief.
Many Chinese in Nan Yang know the meaning of "Shi Nian Shu Mu, Bai
Nian Shu Ren" very well, especially the Chinese in M'sia. We know our
past, we know our present, but we look forward into our future, unlike
some of the participants here.
I am glad to hear that many Chinese in Nan Yang know the meaning of
"Shi Nian Shu Mu, Bai Nian Shu Ren." The question is then what kind
of
ren and what kind of society these ren will form. But more important,
when
one looks forward into the future, what kind of future does he see?
Only a fortune teller can tell you what the future lies. I'm ain't
one, unfortunately, so I ain't gonna say anything.
But this I can tell you. The future depends on what we do NOW.
I ain't saying that if we work hard and smart today, then our future
will gonna be bright. No, I ain't gonna say that.
But on the other hand, if we waste our time away in day-dreams, and
keep on day-dreaming, our future for sure ain't gonna be bright.
There are millions of Chinese staying in Nan Yang. And I admit that
most have failed miserably. But there are amongst us that still
believe in the Shi Nian Shu Mu, Bai Nian Shu Ren mission. As long as
we still can do something now, we are going to do it for our future
generation.
And this ain't gloating. Go see the following sites:
www.hyflux.com
www.gov.sg
If you think we Chinese get an easy life in Nan Yang, come down and
spend a year or two with us, and you know how the natives here treat
us. But we fought on. The above two sites are among the many
"achivements" (if you can say so) _NOW_ that underscore our
determination to fight on. No matter how grim our future may be.
Yes. You people should be proud of yourself.
You guys in Taiwan and China and even in Europe and America had it
easy. What you do is talk and talk and talk. You don't have to endure
the almost daily physical and emotional trauma that we get here.
As a matter fact, we don't know the future. No one AFAIK has any
crystal ball which will tell him what the future will be or will not
be. Whatever we know belongs to the realm of the past.
Implactions:
1. When one says looking into the future, he is actually saying
something like "According to my knowledge of the past and its
historical trajactory, I am expecting the future will be something like...."
2. Since the future is the extrapolation of the past and the present,
how good one can look into future depends on how good he knows
about the past and the present.
Hence the question raised by he beginning post is about the past.
But the question and its answer are also relevant to the future.
In short, to answer your hypothesis above, my suggestion is that you
go take Logic 101.
After that, go take History 101
Well it might be swell to talk about the glorious past, of 5000 yearsIn some sense, being Yen Huang Zi Xun is not something one should
history, of Huang Ti, of Yen Huang Zi Xun, of Confucius, and Lao Zi,
all those add together will NOT propel us into the future. Please
remember that.
proud of. Their history is a history of suffering. This is especially
true for oversea Chinese who had been massacred by hundreds
of thousands, mulitple times. On the otherhand, Yen Huang Zi Xun do
forge something called the Chiense culture which passes the test
of time. The Chinese people do have a long hsitory. For me, this
is reason to look into the Chinese history to find out what the
Chinese people had done right as well as what they had done wrong.
It's easy for you people who have no idea what we have to go through
to blah all your way to the barn and back. Chinese history has no
meaning here. What is important for us here is the present and the
future.
BTW, our own Chinese culture is OUR OWN, yes, we do invent our own
culture, and we do not depend on you guys at all.
To many of us, Confucius is DEAD. Yes, he is as dead as the door knob.
He is not important. Whether he existed or not, it ain't going to make
our lives better, nor make the natives here treat us a bit more
better.
While we know about the history of the Tang dynasty, the Song dynasty,
the Huang Di or whatever, we won't dwell on that, simply because it
doesn't make a shitty different in our lives here. What is past is
PAST, and it ain't gonna happen again.
I've been to everywhere, even to Africa. Everywhere people are going
forward, everywhere. If we put too much of our time in our own
glorious past, we just won't have the heart to look at our present,
and the gloomy future. However gloomy our future may be, we must go
forward, for if we don't, others will take over us, as they have done
for the past 5 centuries.
Now China has just begun to stand up. Just. Don't kid yourself that
China is strong, that in year 2020 China will be number one. No way.
The rest of the world isn't going to stand still and let China take
the numbero uno seat. They will do everything they can to make sure
China fails.
I may be a busybody here, telling you guys these. But the fact is,I don't know how the other think. I think China still a long way
I've seen too many "chinks" mellowing themselves in their daily
wetdreams, that one day China getting strong, and they will share that
"glory". While they are day-dreaming, the Japs, the Gooks, the Yanks,
and the Eupees are forging ahead.
to go to be on par with America or Europe or Japan.
Too many of my "***" friends abroad have started their wet dreams
since the 1980's !
You do have strange "***" friends.
Didn't you notice how the "Chinese media" spread the word about that
"Chinese astronaut" when that half-breed guy was abroad the space
shuttle?
Don't know what you mean here.
How about the time when "Shen Zou" blasted off. How "proud" must we
be, eh?
I don't know whether anyone should be proud. But putting a space ship
to the
moon orbit is indeed an achievement.
It's a tin can, compare with what the American and Russian have. Yet,
we are so damn proud of the "achivement".
I don't know that as a fact. May be you can elaborate why the Chinese
spaceship
is just a tin can by comparison. Anyway, it is true that not a lot of
countries have
managed to put a space ship into the moon orbit.
C'mon, wake up, you guys. It'll take China at least 50 more years to
catch up with the Yankees and the Polar Bears in the space game. But
yet, wet-dreams are being made by those chinks everywhere, everyday.
No. I don't think so.
Relatively to many other areas, China's space technology is closer.
Look at America now. Their presidential race - they even got a WomanIt depends.
and a Black in the running. If that's not progress, what is?
For example, according to certain some fund raising professional,
the Jews contribute 80% of the campaign finances. If so, no
matter who is the president, he or she would still be beholden to
the Jewish people. The Palestinian and its related problems in
the middle east will be with us for a long time. Is this progess?
Who the *** care about the Palestinian? I mean, who the *** are
those assholes in the first place?
While our own Chinese brethrens and sistrens are dying on the street
in Indonesia, why there's nobody out there care for them?
I had read abut it. As I understand it, it was encourged by the
Indonesian
military. The event occurrd suddenly and then died down almost as
quick.
You are welcomed to suggest what Chinese all over can do to prevent
such
incidents.
Why the Chinese and Taiwanese government didn't even care to say
something?
This is a valid question. But I have no answer.
If the Jews rule the world, let them. It ain't my problem. If the Jews
have the brain and the guts to do it, good for them.
If the Palestinians can't survive, then let them die. Who cares?
After all, nobody care for the Chinese living in Nan Yang. Why should
we care about them?
The burden of history:
1. China have been week for the past 200 years. A strong and wealthy
China
would be in a better postion to do more for oversea Chinese,
including those
living in America and Europe.
2. China and Chinese are also demonized in the media. When China and
Chinese
bashing is fashionable, all Chinese are going to suffer.
It's people like you, who have too good a life, that you actually care
for them Palestinians. Tell me, what good have they done for you?
Actually, I don't know them well. But Palestinian news is
inescapable.
The middle east? After their oil went dry, they will die. That's all
to it.
And looking back at us. What have we done for the past 96 yeras sinceWell, "Shi Nian Shu Mu, Bai Nian Shu Ren."
the beginning of the "new China" ? Instead of one China, we have two.
Instead of concentrating our effort going forward as a team, we have
lots of competing parties fighting each others.
How long does America take to become a nation which the world can
look
up to? BTW, America is less populous and more blessed with natural
resources.
Americans fought a war to end their internal conflict, once and for
all. That was the grey vs the blue. After that, they were united as
one.
And the chinks? They have been at war, the saliva war, for the past 58
years, and still no end in site.
Unfortunately, there is something called the Taiwan Strait between the
two sides.
And then there is America's 7th fleet. The ciivil war would certainly
end sooner
without the above
If what it takes is a war, then fight it. End the saliva war, once and
for all. The split is getting ridiculous. If not because of the
useless, gutless, Confucius' thou shalt not do this, thou shalt not do
that idiotic idiology, China would have been ONE.
There won't be Chen Shui Bian, there won't be Dalai Lama, there won't
be "China's Human Right Record" card, and whatever else silly, petty
thing hanging around.
This world is what it is. If you want to look back at history, our
world only respect one thing - MIGHT.
It certainly looks like that way in the short run. But in the long
run, something
else is also important. That is, on the right side of history.
No one says that the Romans were not brutal, but looking back,
everyone admire what the Romans did.
But Rome ceased to exist for a long time. In addition, Rome's fall had
dragged
down Europe into the dark age.
Hitler nearly wiped out the Jews in Europe, and because of this, he
became the culprit of WWII.
Imagine if he successfully wiped out all the Jews. Hitler would be a
greater hero than Ghandi. No, I ain't against the Jews, I'm just
stating a simple fact - our world only respect MIGHT, and what China
lacks, in fact, what all the chinks lack is the guts to attain true
MIGHT.
So *** Confucius and all his followers who have caused all these
gutless attitude. *** them off, and we may have a better future !
