Zhengzhou, Jul 29 (PTI) China's fight against corruption has gained
momentum with the ruling Communist Party and government allowing the
prosecution of Chen Liangyu, the high-flying party leader of Shanghai.

"Comrade Chen's downfall has set an example for us to learn from," a
party official told PTI here in the capital of central Chinese
province of Henan.

"We will ask the cadres to be careful, not abuse power and work for
the people," the official said as China's disciplinary watchdog on
Friday asked Communist Party members and government officials to step-
up anti-corruption education.

The education at the current stage shall lead cadres at various levels
to learn a good lesson from Chen's case so as to keep them alert
against any evil trends that may allure them into corruption and
nepotism, he said.

Chen seriously violated party discipline, caused great losses to the
interests of people and the nation and tarnished the image of the
party, the Communist Party of China (CPC) said in a statement.

"His actions had an extremely bad social influence," it said.

"The battle against corruption has a direct bearing on the public
feeling, the CPC's survival, and the country's long-term social
stability," it said, and added that Chen's punishment "further
demonstrates the CPC's resolution to combat corruption." CPC
organisations must have a deep understanding of the protracted,
complex and hard nature of the battle against corruption, the
statement said.

"Setting Chen's case as a negative example as well as a warning, they
should find problems, close loopholes and make great efforts to build
a clean party and fight against corruption," it said. PTI
