Like father like son. Chuck called Jiang Zimin a expletive deleted
wax dummy in his private impressions at the handover of Hongkong in
1997. Now the tabloid that published these private musings "had no
class." It must have really hurt to have to grin and look happy when
representing mum at that ceremony. With metaphors flying thick and
fast the skies opened up and rained on Chuck's parade while he was
reviewing the departing British contingent. My thought at that time
was it was a sorry spectacle indeed when it never occured to an aide
or anyone to open an umbrella and stand behind the Prince of Wales.
No one would have considered that a protocol faux pas.
