Once again, California takes the lead ....

The Governator just signed into law, an energy initiative that
aims to put solar panels on the rooftop of a million homes in
California.

Which will create 3,000 megawatts of electricity in a decade.

And eliminates the need for six large power plants that has a
combine carbon footprint of trillions of tons. The USA persues
highly distributed governance. States often take the initiatives
whenever the federal government fails to act.

In rapid successions, the People's Republic of California acted.
Through a series of public referendum, the blue state voted to
fund stem cell research on one hand and to be eco friendly on
the other.

With, or without Kyoto treaty .... :)

And rising with the tide will be solar panel manufacturers from China.
China is the world's largest supplier of such systems. Alfie. You
have been to China. Do be an importer and installer. It looks like a
doable small business investment.

I went to the Home Depot like store in Beijing (Chinese clone) and
there were two types of home solar panels. The familiar and more
expensive one is photovoltaic cells that convert sunlight into
electricity. I would be less inclined to install this kind of solar
panel as it requires electronics circuitry and batteries to get the
best use out of them. They also need more maintenace as a thin layer
of grime or dust will cut down their efficiency considerably.

The more popular ones just use solar energy to heat water. These look
like a bank of oversized flourescent tubes inside which is a thin
black plastic membrane to trap sunlight. Water circulates through the
tubes of course. The heated water is for cooking and bathing. Unit
gas or electrical hot water heaters in each household raise the
temperature further if required.
