As for drive through food service I don't think it will fly. People
aren't in such a rush that they cannot take the time to sit down to
eat. There are eating establishments everywhere. Who wants to mess
up one's car with food crumbs. Petrol is expensive. Parking
impossible. People don't drive unless they have to go somewhere. The
traffic in the city is terrible. Places of importance - apartments
and shops are close to each other and within the city. There is no
such thing as driving for miles to visit someone in the boondocks and
stopping along the way to a convenience store by the freeway.

The popularity of western fast food-fad foods in China is over rated.
My visits to MacDonalds is because I can get coffee there. The other
MacD stuff is too greasy for my tastes and comparitively expensive
compared to local food. Mainland Chinese hardly drink any coffee. I
only saw two Starbucks coffee places in Beijing though there are
probably more Starbucks coffee establishments. I avoid Starbucks as
being overpriced. Also theirs is the only coffee that really gives me
the kick as being too strong - an uncomfortable feeling, appetite
supressant and can't sleep.

The most important factor however is because I can use the clean sit
down toilet in MacDonalds. In many places including luxury goods
malls the toilets are the squat type. I am too old and out of
practice to use those. I used to like squat toilets. Don't laugh.
Squatters have a very low incidence of lower GI tract hemorrhoids.
Other plus factors for squatters are too sensitive to discuss in
polite society like SCC. There's not much of a point too in
discussing it unless you have tried both extensively.
