Whatever the rights and wrongs of this story isn't the article a bit
misleading to say the least? It almost suggests that the idea is Gordon
Brown's and that he is the main person pushing this along against a tide of
opinion especially as far as Wales is concerned. As I understand it the idea
has been ongoing for some time - long before Brown became PM - and the
devolved Welsh Assembly themselves recommended that the project should go
ahead. The website, which seems to be aimed at people living in North
America, states that you don't need to be Welsh to sign this petition, yet
fails to state that there is official support for the project within Wales
itself, instead almost hinting that it is being forced on Wales at UK
govrnement level.

A trifle sensationalist perhaps but not misleading. The intention of
the article was to draw attention to the disastrous environmental
consequences of the scheme and to highlight the fact that better and
cheaper alternatives are available. The current Labour government has
decided to proceed with a costly feasibility
study and I don't doubt that they have the support of the Welsh
Assembly. Whatever degree of support this scheme attracts either
inside or outside Wales it is my belief that it will be vastly
deleterious to the existing estuarine ecosystems. It will also prove
massively expensive and less efficient than alternative
environmentally friendly options. Who will benefit? Presumably Gareth
Woodham who plans to sail his yacht on the 'Severn Lake', see link:-
