Bolivian President Says UN Should Be Decolonized
Havana, Sept 27 (ACN) Bolivian President Evo Morales expressed support
for Cuba and its president, Fidel Castro, before the UN General
Assembly, in response to the hostile words delivered by the U.S
President against Cuba.
"Some countries came here and were threatened by [...] President Bush
[...] if that's the case, maybe we should change the site of the United
Nations," said Morales, calling for the "decolonization of the UN."
"Fidel sends troops to save lives, not like the US president who sends
troops to end lives," said Morales in his address, as quoted by Granma
newspaper.
On the topic of biofuels, Morales said he doesn't support the idea of
"producing food for cars."
"I can't understand how we can think about using land for heaps of
metal. The land is for life. If we are really thinking about life we
must abandon luxury. We can't continue to accumulate garbage and go on
only taking into account the welfare of a small number of families,"
said Bolivia's first indigenous president.
Morales pointed out that when movements join to protest against
policies of the wealthy countries, "the response comes in the form of
interventions, military bases and accusations of terrorism; as if the
peoples don't have the right to demand their needs, their rights."
Meanwhile, the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) expressed its support for the
Palestinian people and their leaders, as well as the promotion of a
broad peace process that is just and lasting in this troubled region,
reported Prensa Latina.
