PHNOM PENH, Dec. 3 (AP) - (Kyodo)—Cambodia's government said Wednesday
that its political stance on international affairs will follow that of
China.
Khieu Kanharith, minister of information and a government spokesman,
told reporters that during a one-hour talk Cambodian Prime Minister
Hun Sen affirmed to Chinese politician Jia Qinglin that Cambodia
honors the "One-China Policy" and would "stand the same stance as that
of China on international affairs." The spokesman did not elaborate,
but he cited China's many grants and loans to Cambodia as having
helped Cambodia through difficult times.
During the talks Wednesday, Jia pledged 100 million yuan ($12.5
million) in grants and free-interest loan to Cambodia and added China
looks for full support from the Cambodian government in oil and
mineral exploitation.
Political observers have suggested Cambodia is moving closer and
closer to China rather than its old ally Vietnam or the United
States.
Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese
People's Political Consultative Conference, is on a three-day official
visit to Cambodia.
