1. A 4 year university degree is too long a wait for family to receive
economic advantage from sending sons and daughters to school.
According to current statistics, only 10% of those who have graduated
would get employment. That translates into a lot of suffering,
disappointment and distrust of the educational system.
A 2 year community college to train youngsters in computer repair,
plumbing, electrician and nursing is much more practical and
realistic. Folks will reap economic benefits much sooner and will
train for the right job. There will be less waiting period. That would
unload of lot of psychological and social burdens. It will further
lift up the horizon of the communities.
For those who are ambitious, they can use the new earned income to
further continue their schooling on a part time basis while receiving
income to support family and lead a much happier life.
2. When a lot of youngsters are moving to fill up needs of the
business community, they also have income, thus adding more wealth to
the larger community and pushing up the gross national product. At the
same time, the income gap between the rich and the poor is getting
smaller, thus generating more stimulus and adding more satisfaction to
income earning families. Most of these people would be coming from low
income or poverty stricken areas. That means moving people out of
poverty and into income producing bracket. This is another approach to
redistribute or even create wealth.
3. Most poor people come from rural communities where development and
transformation are not prioritized. By moving people out of the farms
through motivation, schooling, development and the introduction of 2
year community college, the whole Cambodian demographics will depend
less on agriculture, thus generating less pressure of the farming
communities. There will be more elasticity of supply and demand. The
current inflationary cycle in rice production means that those who are
involved on agricultural production would gain more economic advantage
at the same time.
