Being a politician is just another way of working for a living. Just
like a business person whose motive is money, a career professional
who wants to advance in an organization, a politician's sole objective
is power and control.
In the beginning, Funcinpec had worked very hard to get along and
gather public opinion on its behalf. The struggle was long, the battle
turned bloody, the negotiation required talents and diplomatic skills.
The outcome was resolution, understanding and peaceful coexistence.
Funcinpec had shown these multifaceted roles without getting
schizophrenic and dysfunctional.
Working for a living, fighting the battles of colonization, if it's
being done with patience, perseverance and humility, it can be
beneficial and inspiring, no matter how difficult the task is. The
healing happens at the level of human conscience where perception,
reality and the logic of human reasoning merge and evolve. In the
absence of integrity, there will not be resolution, regardless of the
amount of work and suffering that will be injected into the situation.
That's what the story of Funcinpec is all about. After it had won the
first election, it had become humanized and, in the process, acquired
the human characteristics of good, bad and ugly.
After the victory of the election in 1993, it could have lived a
modest life and continue to have an internal struggle to learn the
rope of politics in Cambodia as it works to collaborate with its
competitors. The stopping of learning has created arrogance, hypocrisy
and vice versa. As such, it falls prey to its competitor's penchant
for violence and madness. Instead of growth and development, Funcinpec
becomes stagnant and divisive. Instead of getting new information and
deeper knowledge about the wild repercussion of Cambodian politics, it
lives in the old fantasy of past victory. It had forgotten the lesson
of its own history.
Learning can be continuous only it's being earned with utmost
integrity, humility and diligence. When there's no learning, there
will be no growth and development. In that kind of situation, the more
things change, the more they will remain the same or even get worse.
How will Funcinpec go about to digest the event of the NRP scenario?
If it can work to resolve that issue, it may find the riddle of
Cambodian politics, thus providing it with the consistency of its
platform. Coherence is the lingua franca of politics to attract new
converts and sustain old believers.
5 more months to go until July 2008. The time is now, at least at the
design level.- Hide quoted text -

1. Work to reconcile with NRP. Remember the principle of
collaboration. Control is not collaboration. It's the opposite. If one
tries to control the situation like CPP, one abdicates the principle
and practice of collaboration, thus denying commitment, creativity and
innovation in problem solving. Appeal to the building spirit of
Jayavarman VII.
2. Work to continue the current collaboration with CPP as usual.
3. Work to collaborate with SRP, HRP. Same principle of collaboration
should apply here
4. Current seat allocation in the National Assembly: CPP has 23,
Funcinpec 26 and SRP 24. Total number of legislators is 123. In order
to hold CPP in hostage, the others political parties in Cambodia need
to have 123/2 = 61.5 seats. In reality, Funcinpec, SRP, NRP and HRP
should have won a combined seating of around 65 in the National
Assembly in order to bring change in social, economic and political
realities to Cambodia. Within that number of 65, Funcinpec should aim
for the perfect number of 30 or better. 30 is not that hard because
it's only about 4 more seats from current counting. This is only a
conceptual map of the current situation. The real map may be a little
bit different.
5. Message for the Cambodian people: continue rapid development and
bridge the gap between the poor and the rich. Eradicate poverty within
5 to 10 years. How can you do that? Have a plan and consult with
economists, philosophers and social anthropologists. Translate
economic jargon into common Khmer language so that ordinary folks down
on the farm can digest easily.- Hide quoted text -

who will lead the FUNCINPEC when Nor Sihanouk dies ,?

There are lots of people that are very competent in there. Dr. Kol
Pheng and HE Lu Lay Sreng are 2 of them. The current chairman of
Funcinpec and Ranariddh's half sister will work their way up.
By the way, it would be almost impossible for SRP to gain 62 seats in
the next election of July 2008. So, it's much better for these smaller
parties to coordinate among themselves in order to play a better
scenario with CPP.
