Twenty foreign GROs nabbed at megamall
BUKIT MERTAJAM:Twenty foreign women were arrested while they were busy
entertaining their clients at an entertainment outlet at the Megamal
Pinang in Prai.
Central Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Anil Shah Abdullah said that
acting on a tip-off, a 12-member police team was deployed to the
premises which the team cordoned off about 1am yester-day.
He said the women from China, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand came on
social visit passes and were believed to be working there as guest
relations officers (GROs).
During the raid, the foreigners were entertaining 45 men who were
released after their urine samples tested negative for any drugs.
The 26-year-old operator of the outlet was detained for questioning.
In Kulim, nine Thai women working illegally at a massage parlour were
arrested during an operation.
A Myanmar man and a woman from China who were found in an
entertainment outlet and a cybercafe were also detained for not having
any passport.
The 11 were nabbed during a joint raid by 30 enforce- ment officers
from the police, Immigration Department, mu-nicipal council, Rela,
health office, district office and Re-ligious Department.
