The President of Cambodia's National Assembly has asked Russia to wipe
out $US1.5 billion in bilateral debt.
Cheam Yeap, who heads the Parliamentary Finance Commission, says the
request was made by Cambodian lawmakers in Moscow during a regional
meeting of legislators from around the Asia-Pacific.
He told reporters the delegation asked the Russia Government, its
National Assembly and all Russian people, to give 100 per cent debt
relief to Cambodia, which would strengthen its improverished state.
Cambodia is one of the poorest countries with a bilateral debt to
Moscow.
