17_(Kyodo) _ ---------- Softbank to acquire Vodafone's Japan unit for
1.75 tril. yen
TOKYO - Softbank Corp. and Vodafone Group Plc reached an agreement
Friday that the Japanese leading Net services group will acquire the
British firm's entire 97.7 percent stake in its Japan unit, Vodafone
K.K., for 1.75 trillion yen, the two companies said.
With the deal, Softbank will be Japan's third-largest
telecommunications company after the Nippon Telegraph and Telephone
Corp. group and KDDI Corp.
---------- Current account deposit balance falls below 30 tril. yen for
4th day
TOKYO - The outstanding balance of current account deposits held by
private financial institutions at the Bank of Japan stood at 28.59
trillion yen on Friday, slipping below 30 trillion yen for the fourth
straight day, the central bank said.
Friday's balance hit the lowest level since last August, but the
current account deposit balance is expected to rise to around 31.08
trillion yen on Monday, coming back to the over 30 trillion yen range
for the first time in five business days, the BOJ said.
---------- Malaysia sets lower departure tax for new budget air
terminal
KUALA LUMPUR - The international departure tax at Malaysia's low-cost
carrier terminal slated to open next Thursday has been fixed at 35
ringgit ($9.5), Transport Minister Chan Kong Choy announced Friday.
The government has also fixed domestic departure tax at 6 ringgit, the
official news agency Bernama reported him saying.
---------- Japan extends aid for demining in Cambodia
PHNOM PENH - The Japanese government extended Friday grant assistance
in cash to Cambodia for demining activities.
Kem Sophoan, director general of the Cambodian Mine Action Center, told
Kyodo News that Japan's grant aid worth $3.8 million was inked Friday
by Hor Namhong, Cambodia's foreign minister, and Fumiaki Takahashi,
Japanese ambassador to Cambodia, to contribute to research and
development of mine clearance equipment.
