Seng Ratana report (674 KB)
Mr. Sam Rainsy's lawyer wrote an official letter to PM Hun Sen to drop
charges against opposition Sam Rainsy party's leader Sam Rainsy against
whom the government filed a defamation lawsuit.
Mr. Sam Rainsy's lawyer Som Chandina says that Mr. Hun Sen is linient
and generous and has pardoned civil society activists, therefore he
believes that the prime minister will do the same for Mr. Sam Rainsy.
Mr. Hun Sen filed a defamation lawsuit against Mr. Sam Rainsy charging
him of accusing the prime minister of being behind the 1997 grenade
attack on demonstrators, and that Mr. Hun Sen had a plan to kill civil
societies leaders.
There is no reaction from the prime minister on this case.
However government spokesman Khieu Kanharith says that he will leave
Mr. Sam Rainsy's lawyer's request for the government's lawyer to
decide.
