Cambodia urged to import Bangladeshi goods
UNB, DHAKA
President Prof Iajuddin Ahmed urged Cambodia to import readymade
garments, ceramics, pharmaceuticals, textile, leather and leather goods
at cheap price from Bangladesh.
The President made the request while newly-appointed Ambassador of
Cambodia to Bangladesh based in New Delhi Choeung Buntheng presented
his credentials to him at Bangabhaban yesterday.
Welcoming Mr. Buntheng, Dr Iajuddin recalled the cordial bilateral
relations existing between Bangladesh and Cambodia and reiterated
Bangladesh's determination to further consolidate and develop relations
with Cambodia.
He said that Bangladesh has virgin field of tourism and Cambodia can
develop this field.
He underscored the need for exchange of visit of the delegation
including the trade, education, defence and agricultural science
between the two countries.
The President stated that Bangladesh and Cambodia share a commonality
of views of various international issues and working closely in
different international forums like UN, NAM and ACD.
He mentioned that in this rapidly changing global scenario it is
imperative for small developing countries to cooperate with each other
two formulate common development strategies.
Iajuddin Ahmed expressed happiness at the steady economic development
and political stability achieved by Cambodia under the able leadership
of the father of the present King Norodom Shihanouk.
Recalling Bangladesh long-standing support to Cambodia in her efforts
to establish peace, justice and social stability, he mentioned about
Bangladeshis active role in the UNAMIC (UN Advance Mission in Cambodia)
and UNTAC (UN Transitional Authority in Cambodia) 1993, which was
deeply appreciated by the Cambodian authority.
The president thanked the government of Cambodia for the active support
towards Bangladesh membership for ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF).
