Journalist Goes to Court
Sothea Tith
Phnom Penh
28/11/2005
Dam Sith, editor-in-chief of Moneaksekar Khmer newspaper Monday went to
the Phnom Penh court to answer questions on charges of tarnishing
National Assembly President Norodom Ranaridh's reputation and the
National Assembly's name.
Moneaksekar Khmer is well known to criticize the government and
supports the opposition party.
Mr. Kim San of the National Assembly secretariat, filed suit against
the newspaper editor in October 2004 accusing Mr. Dam of publishing
about 20 articles in his newspaper which had tarnished Prince
Ranaridh's name.
Phnom Penh court deputy prosecutor Cheth Chariya charged Mr. Dam of
defaming the prince.
Mr. Dam Sith complained that he had not received any complaints and was
not given a chance to make corrections if what he had published were
indeed wrong.
