PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (AP) - One person was slightly injured when a
passenger aircraft had an accident in northeastern Cambodia on Monday,
officials said.
The accident occurred when a Chinese-made Y-7 aircraft carrying six
Cambodian crew members and 59 passengers made a hard landing on the
dirt-runway at the airport in Banlung, the capital of Rattanakiri
province, said Mao Has Vannal, the head of Cambodia's civil aviation
authority.
He said the plane's right landing gear was crippled by the impact and
that officials were investigating the cause of the accident. He added
that about 30 of the passengers were foreigners, who work in the
province or are tourists.
A male flight attendant was admitted to the provincial hospital for a
minor injury to his shoulder and later released, said Phing Phan Sak
Kunthea, the hospital director.
The plane is owned by Royal Phnom Penh Airways, a company set up by
Prince Norodom Chakrapong, a son of retired King Norodom Sihanouk.
Rattanakiri province is about 325 kilometers (202 miles) northeast of
Phnom Penh, Cambodia's capital.
