Three Singapore football internationals have been fined 1,000 Singapore
dollars (592 US) each for missing a flight to Cambodia, where they were
due to play in a friendly, the football association said Wednesday.
..
Rosman Sulaiman, Shariff Abdul Samat, Firdaus Salleh were also given a
written warning, the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) said in a
statement.
..
The players, aged between 21 and 23, collected their boarding passes
for the October 10 flight to Phnom Penh but arrived late at the
boarding gate, FAS said. The three missed the match against Cambodia
the next day.
..
"FAS has investigated the incident and the circumstances surrounding
the missing of the flight and have found that there were no reasonable
or acceptable reasons for not being at the boarding gate in time to
board the flight before the gate was closed," the statement said.
..
It said FAS "takes a very serious view on players' personal discipline
and responsibility, especially when called for national duty." - AFP
