MANILA, Philippines (AP) - Security and terrorism experts from the
Association of Southeast Asian Nations will gather in the Philippines
next week to share information on the use of the Internet by terror
groups, the Philippine government said Thursday.
Each country is expected to make recommendations on measures to counter
cyber-terrorism and submit them to ministers in the ASEAN Regional
Forum, which includes the 10 ASEAN members plus 15 "dialogue partners,"
including the United States, Australia, China, Japan, India and the
European Union.
The 2nd ARF Seminar on Cyber-Terrorism will be held in central Cebu
city on Oct. 3-5. The first seminar was held last year on the South
Korean resort island of Jeju, where participants recommended a
region-wide mechanism to fight cyber-terror.
The 10-member ASEAN includes Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos,
Malaysian, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
The next ARF meeting will be held in mid-2006 in Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia.
