Military junta in Nay Pyi Taw bent on genocide

By Mats Henriksson

June 20, 2007 - The Burmese people have been living out a life of
oppression in a country where the military junta has had a
stranglehold since 1962. People in Burma suffer on a daily basis but
the lives of ethnic and religious minorities are the worst effected in
the State Peace and Development Council (SPDC) regime.

The hawks in the Burma Army on October 18, 2004 usurped power,
following an "internal" coup, ushering in living conditions in Burma
which were far worse than ever before. This is especially true in the
seven ethnic minority states, were the SPDC has sent in more and more
occupation forces.

In Karen State there are about 55 Burma Army battalions tasked with
large scale ethnic cleansing operations. SPDC's forces are literally
"hunting" the oppressed Internally Displaced Persons (IDP´s) in their
hideouts in the jungles.

Burmese troops systematically shoot at unarmed Karen civilians with
mortars and heavy machineguns in what is genocide, punishable under
all available international laws.

This reminds one about the genocide by Serbian forces in the Balkan
The difference is that in Balkan the international community took
strong action against the Serbian regime in Belgrade.

In May 2007 the SPDC and Russia's Atomic Energy Agency signed an
agreement to build a 10- megawatt nuclear reactor.

Is there reason for the world to believe that the SPDC's nuclear
programme is only for research? If the Burmese military junta is in
possession of nuclear arms it will be a nightmarish proposition.

Unfortunately there are countries which provide Burma with arms and
military technology. Ukraine for example in 2003 sold 50 T 72 battle
tanks to the Burma Army. In Meiktila the Ukraine state-owned arms
producer,Kharkiv Morozow has a factory were the Ukraine management and
engineers led the production of 1,000 Armoured Personnel Carriers, the
Btr 3-U.

Since the US led invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan, the SPDC
apprehends an US invasion in Burma in the future. That is why the
military junta relocated the capital, from Rangoon to the newly
constructed city of Nay Pyi Taw or Nyapydaw.

SPDC has purchased a large quantity of arms and military technology
over the past five years, which is much more arms than the Burma Army
needs when they attempt to fight armed resistance groups in states
such as the Shan, Karenni and Karen where brave freedom fighters
defend their land and their oppressed people.

On May 2,1 2007 on Shan State Army Day, Colonel Yawd Serk president of
the Restoration Council of Shan State said in his speech : "To gain
back our country and have full rights of self-governance Shan State
people have to unify and continue with the armed struggle as other
options have failed. " One agrees completely with Yawd Serks
statement.

It is a shame for the international community that so far no action
strong enough has been taken against the worlds most brutal military
dictatorship.

For the SPDC political and economic sanctions are not effective. We in
free democratic nations, have started to talk with the SPDC regime
with the use of a language the junta generals cannot misunderstand.

Maybe applying some kind of military pressure will be necessary.

It is good to read the statement of Laura Bush's concern for Myanmar
and for Suu Kyi BUT..............................Talk is one thing,
write is another and........action is a separate matter. IF USA really
care for the 25 million or so Iraqis people that was repressed by the
oppressor Saddam, what about the 53 million Burmese people repressed
by the Generals? Do one thing in one place and do another thing in
another place is not consistant and does not support the just cause
for all peoples of the world. Does it? Justice for all should be
implemented if serious in this matter or just ignore all. Only lip
service and hand service does not produce results. Action speaks
louder than words or statements or signatures.

I will vote for any candidate (in 2008) who will use nuclear weapons/
arsenals and talk less. Any candidate either Democrat or Republican
who will use nuclear means.- Hide quoted text -

Burma/Myanmar was fine before the military take over in 1962. Instead
Burma was the "model" Asian nation where Malaysians, Singaporeans came
to study in Burma and went back to their countries and implement
Burma's models and styles and now become the forefront nations of
Asia. It is the truth that Burma was the leading nation of Asia. The
rice bowl of Asia. As soon as the military touch and invade it's own
nation the nation went down big time. After Ne Win's rule Burma don't
even have a good hospital and the Generals have to go abroad for
medical attention to this day. What a shame! A nation with no good
hospital and no good doctors. For decades Burma's rulers have to go
outside their country for simple medical check ups. Can you believe a
country as big as Myanmar had no advance hospitals? A country as small
as Singapore has advance hospitals and good doctors? Singapore is just
the size of Yangon/Rangoon and yet Singapore is so advance. This is
the compelling truth how the Burmese military had ruin its own nation
for more than 4 decades. How any one can answer this compelling truth
of military's stupidness, backwardness and idiotness? Since the days I
live in Myanmar the Generals have to go over board for simple medical
checkups. What a waste of time! The country, the people suffer
tremendously. All these years I thought Myanmar had developed into a
ultra modern state but to my shock it is utterly the opposite. As long
as the military rules the nation will be in the shambles of begging
this and that including begging for medical attention. What a pathetic
woes!

This is real funny. Once a Burmese living/working in Singapore ask the
Singaporeans how and where did they learn to make Singapore one of the
most advance nation in south east Asia and was shock by the answer.
The Singaporeans said..........we learnt it from Burma during Burma's
golden days of democratic era.
