Over 2,000 people including actress Nandar Hlaing attended the
inaugural ceremony of the building housing the 180 feet sitting Buddha
image in Mudon Township, Mon State. The ceremony began at 9 a.m.
yesterday.

Actress Nandar Hlaing cut the ribbons at the ceremony. Mon monks
recited Buddha Dhama before she severed the ribbons, according to a
villager who attended.

Win Sein Taw Ra Mon monk alias Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotikadhaja Kay Sar
Ra said, "Cutting the first ribbon is for Buddha, the second is for
Dhamma, and the last is for the monks".

Most of the visitors gathered near Win Sein Taw Ra Mon monk and Nandar
Hlaing, a resident in southern Mudon said.

Visitors crowded Win Sein Taw Ra' place and donated necklaces, rings,
and gold to the Mon monk's bowl before food was offered.

The vice president of the New Mon State Party, Nai Rot Sa and other
party functionaries and members followed Win Sein Taw Ra Mon monk by
carrying small Buddha images.

Most visitors, who wore traditional Mon dress, stood on both sides of
the main road during the ceremony. Visitors who did not wear Mon
dresses were placed behind them.

After the opening ceremony, about 20 Rangoon (Yangon) entertainment
groups including actress Mjita, performed Mon traditional ancient
dance and Karen dance at night on the grounds of the building where
the Buddha image is installed. It is one furlong from Khat-ya-khat-yuu
Pagoda in Mudon Township.
