Sure, 1/2 of the Karen, 1/2 of the Shan some Karenni, Mon etc. are fighting
for their own piece of Myanmar to control. These groups are not fighting for
Myanmar independence, just their own autonomy. Yes, the '88 folks did fight
for Myanmar independence, but folded with the first battle. D.A,S.S.K was
only accepted as their leader becuse she was not alligned to any particular
group on the ground.......and because of her father.

Does the NLD have support within the country ? She certainly does from those
who have fled Myanmar.

From my experience ....NLD does have respect, as does D.A.S.S.K..... but
little support.

Most Myanmar people I have spoken with think the NLD's time has gone. DASSK
had an opportunity to negotiate, but refused to.
NLD/DASSK wanted all or nothing. The people appear to have not received any
benefit from supporting the NLD.

All systems need an opposition to balance their power. Why has Myanmar not
been able to provide an effective opposition ?

A effective oposition , not recognized by the SPDC, does not exist in
Myanmar. Why ?

There are many factors involved. Poverty is one of the reason. The
military really does not care about the civilians. When the civilians
are hungry and search for food they don't have time for politics. So,
in other words the military likes people getting poor so they are busy
with livelihood and no time for politics and thus they (military) can
rule for so long without internal threats. the military creates a
situation where there is no starvation either for people can cross the
line and revolt and yet not abundance of food for people to have free
time, relax and think about politics to revolt against them. These are
cunning, wicked and treacherous tactics military use. These military
Generals know only one thing. To hold on to the power at all cost.
They will do anything to stay on power including the country go poor
or sell the nation. They simply do not care as long as their families
are well fed, well educated (sending their families abroad for farther
studies). Look at the colleges and universities inside Burma. The
military do what ever they want including closing down the facilities.
They don't care the students' future. If any politics involved they
jail anyone, students or even monks. Speaking of monks Burma is a
Buddhist majority country and the monks teaches the people not to kill
an insect or a little ant let alone to revolt against humans. So, the
military knows the weakness of the Burmese and take advantage of it.
Another reason is that the ethnics are different race and they had
different culture and language so it is natural for them to rise
against the Bamah/Burmese because they do not want alien (bamah is
regarded as another race/alien to these ethnics) domination. Another
reason is Bamahs (civilians) have a reputation of wanting to live in
peace and quiet life likes to be left alone by themselves. That is
their nature, that is their tradition. As long as these bamahs had
enough food for themselves they really don't care who rule the nation.
Look at Aung San Suu Kyi, she is fighting against the military in a
"peaceful" manner. So................there are many factors involved
not to mention the military use many deceptive tactics to hoot wink
the Burmese people that as if the west is going to invade or they
officially declare the west is trying to impose a puppet government in
fact or in truth they (military) themselves are the puppet government
of China. These Chinese puppet/install government spdc had to
contribute many resources to China first. Food, humans, teaks/timbers
you name it they had to give it to the BIG neighbor China which is
expanding at an alarming rate and needs all the good foods, natural
resources of Burma. The lastest one is the gas/oil. One can see
obviously that the oil pipeline to India is much much shorter and yet
they had to or must give to the farther longer country China. why?
because spdc is the Chinese installed puppet government. That's why.
The military act as if they are protecting the nation from outside
domination in fact or in truth they (military) are the ones domination
the country for 45 years. Another reason is bamahs talk a lot and very
few action, so no wonder the military can rule for so long.
