Restaurants are the ones to make post profits even after paying
official taxes and abnormal extortion money to policemen, according to
a restaurant owner.
"After giving normal and abnormal taxes to the authorities, we make a
net profit about Kyat 7 to 8 million a year," said that owner in
Thanbyuzayart Township. Some small restaurants make about Kyat 3 to 4
million.
The costs of special rooms with waitresses in the restaurant works out
to about Kyat 5,000 per hour including air conditioning in Moulmein and
Thanbyuzayart Township, Mon State, he said.
The lowest cost of appetizers in the restaurant is about Kyat 2,000,
while some are about Kyat 4,000 and the cost is increasing.
The restaurant owner said even though we would like to open other
restaurants in other places, the authorities are not allowing
extension. They allow opening only one restaurant per owner.
Nai Mon who came from Rangoon, the capital of Burma said that some cost
appetizers in the restaurant located in lower Burma is more expensive
than restaurants in Rangoon.
So some waitresses from Rangoon have gone to work in Thanbyuzayart to
earn more income apart from their salaries, he said.
According to him, Mon State gets the money sent by residents who are
working in neighboring countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, and
Singapore.
He added the authorities such as policemen are also holding shares in
some restaurants. But he did not identify those who have shares
