Hopes of Three Pagoda Pass furniture trade resuming soon

The furniture trade in Three Pagoda Pass (TPP) border is likely to
resume soon as the tactical commander of the Southeast Command is
arriving on the border today, said local businessmen.
About 200 Southeast Command soldiers led by tactical commander Kyaw
Htww Lwin arrived in TPP area, according to the local authorities.
"We hope the border furniture factories will be allowed to reopen
soon. Some of us are already gearing up to start our factories," said
Ko Soe, a local businessman.
Businessmen are happy to be able to reopen business and local
authorities are also happy because they will again be getting money
from businessmen, said the resident, Nai Rot.
TPP border has often been closed and the last closure order was on June
3 from top level government officers. The closure order has affected
many workers as the majority of the residents rely on the furniture
business.
Colonel Kyaw Htoo Lwin's trip is also believed to revolve around
shifting the TPP based military battalion No.303, said Ko Soe. But one
is still not sure which battalion will replace No.303, he added.
The TPP battalion usually moves twice a year. But this time, battalion
No.303 only arrived in TPP in April and has to move this month, Nai Tin
explained.
Residents are also curious as to why the Southeast Command is moving
the No.303 battalion.
